    Hello to all.

This is my first time in these forums.

I used to own a SG Standard from 2012 that I had to sell because of some financial problems. I freaking loved that guitar and I'm ready to own another one again.

I live in Europe and I've been looking at these Tokais (SG92 and SG118) and they look quite nice. I know the pickups are nothing fantastic, but those can be swapped...

Does any of you how they compare to Gibsons in terms of build and feel? Also, can they sound like the Gibson using the same pickups? They were Classic 57's.

    Thank you!

Hello, I don't have any hands on experience, but from looking at some pics and specs, I'd say go for it. They look beautiful.
Hopefully someone else that has owned both will chime in.
    Good Luck!! :cheers2:

The Tokais I have seen are pretty good quality. Gibson is the benchmark for all the others to follow/copy. Check the neck profiles on each and see which you would prefer. Half the battle is how it feels in your hands.

If you can compare them in person, of course that is the best plan.

I don't have a Tokai SG, but rather a Burny and a Gibson. I love them both and would have a hard time choosing just one.

    Thank you for your responses.

Sadly I have no chance to try them, so I plan to buy it online only from an retailer. I'll make sure they accept returns.

I have a 2003 japan made tokai LP and it is exceptionally well made... I pulled it out recently after sitting for a few months in a case... and completely in tune. Fit/finish is excellent, feel is very good- but more Gibby usa than custom shop. Could i be happy with a tokai and nothing else... yep.

Pup swap... yep... but I tend to not like stock gibby pups either.
