I just received one of Phil's LP Jr. Special kits and the backplate doesn't seem to match the standard size. I got paper template from MojoAxe for both the current '60 LP DC Special VOS and one listed as "historic", and both cavity covers are significantly smaller than the route on my body, and shaped slightly differently to boot.

I contacted Phil, and he appears to only make SG Special covers, which is neither the right size or shape. Here is a pic of my body (with a ruler for scale):

Has anyone else run across this? I can't even find tracings or templates on the internet, which I find sort-of shocking. Has anyone else built a DC Special kit from Precision Guitar Kits?

    Thanks,

    Shawn.

Place a piece of clear plastic over the control cavity, and trace the cover rout with a sharpie. Transfer the pattern to your material of choice and cut and sand to fit. Problem solved.

    Jmorris -

I was hoping for a bit tighter tolerance than that would afford. Ideally, a tracing of someone else's plate or even better, a routing template. I tried tracing, and the lines are just not crisp enough.

You could trace and cut slightly oversized and then carefully trim down the template to fit tightly. A bit slow but it will do the trick.
