I am in the process of adding a Gibson P-94R neck pickup to my 1991 Gibson Les Paul Studio and I can have the pickup totally covered or partially covered, but I'm not sure which look I like better so I'll leave it up to you to help me decide.

I've made mock ups of how each type would appear against my wine red finish and black hardware. Please take a look and vote on what you like better:

    Thanks!

I don’t know. The all covered looks classy, and the partial cover looks more “ hot rodded” if that makes sense? I’ll vote for all covered. That guitar is too sleek looking for the modded look. That’s my vote.

Yeah, I think I'm starting to lean in that direction as well.

At first I was really digging the new look, but you're right, I think it might not "fit" quite as good as I originally thought...

Ha ha ha... that's pretty good!

Although, truth be known, this guitar came with nickel hardware and I changed everything over to gold, so... all I can say is that I'm NOT changing it back! ;)

All covered. Prefer the nickel/chrome over gold, but that's just me

I always thought the P94 came with open "demi-covers" only. Never seen a full cover for one. Are those available on the aftermarket? Also, the only one listed is black / silver. Years ago they offered cream plate with silver or gold, as well as black with gold... but those aren't listed any more.

And, the P94 is one hot tamale of a pickup. I'd almost consider it in the bridge with a medium low output PAF toned HB at the neck. Just my experience

You're right, it seems like the only Gibson P-94s available right now are the black/silver "open top" ones.

So, the "gold" covers would have to be aftermarket (both "open" and "full") and I'd have to retrofit them onto the Gibson pickup. I'm mostly concerned about the Gibson pole pieces lining up with the aftermarket "full" cover holes - that's why I was trying to decide whether or not I would be happy with the stock "open" look.

I suppose if I only had the one choice I'd be fine with it, but since we live in a world of many choices, well, then I guess life's BOTH easy AND difficult at the same time, ain't it?

Well, the 498T in the bridge is pretty hot, so I hope they'll be a good match.

Either way, since I'm going for a clearer, brighter "rhythm" pickup in the neck position and, since the 498T satisfies my need for a sizzling bridge pickup, I'm thinking it'll at least work out better than what I've already got...

Phat Cat is cleaner brighter than p94. Ive had both and much preferred the Phat Cat.

Put Gold reflector knobs on it and that will help. Liked the P94 version best.

I voted for all gold, given the choices on the poll. But actually, I think double black open coils would look killer with gold or nickel hardware.
