Looks cool to me! I enjoy playing my PODxt Live. Sure it's not the same as going through my 100w Splawn Quickrod Halfstack, but it's fun and actually keeps my amp and pedal GAS at bay.

why do Pods get such a bad rap ?

Because they break up (the fricken' dreaded fizz they cause) and they don't hold hold the tightness when you're playing muffled low notes.

I love mine. I am currently building a stand alone pedal board but the PODXT Live has been such a great tool for recording. Basically you can get just about any sound you want out of that thing. The other cool benefit is their forum where you can create and swap tones with others. I have picked up some of my favorite tones from the Line 6 forums.

They get a bad rap because "people dont know how to tweek knobs"
the Online Downloadable Tones from other musicians have Killer setups
MUCH BETTER THAN THE STOCK tones.
Thats the real secret. Tweek the knobs, and download user tones
    online.

My buddies at Sonoma Wireworks have guitar recordings that you
would swear are real amps, you really cant tell when they are used
    right.

here is an online forum of recordings made with the PODxt and other line 6
look for songs by Mickey Mix, Rifflink Junkies, many others, there are even current
    artists that put songs up
    Here is Mickeys songs
    Sonoma Wire Works
    the song forum

I would like to restart this thread to see if others have any opinions.
I'm tempted to get the new POD.
I have a ZOOM G2 (similar device but half the price) and I really like it, but the POD offers so many more options.
The hard thing is that you never hear subtle demos of this device so it's hard to hear past all the echo and overdrive.
I tend to like a variety of clean or simi-clean sounds with a little gain only once in a while.
I could test one out at the store, but it took hours of tweaking with my Zoom before I got sounds I liked (defaults are horrible and extreme).

    Real world opinions are appriciated.

The new POD III is awesome, the best thing is its added
the bass, and vocal tones to it, and you cant beat it for recording
saves you alot of time setting up mics and amps, some of the
very top recording artists use them to record with

ANd if you set it up right, they can work great with an amp
and PA if you get the floor unit that goes with it

gotta agree with you about tweaking the knobs and settings. I can't understand the bad rep about the pod. my friend uses it, i've played with it too. he's able to get a range of good tones and sounds by tweaking it on his com...

I'll echo what has already been said..you have to adjust the POD to what you are playing through..and if you can figure this out..the POD will blow you away..i spent about 2 weeks tweaking my POD and every time i play i get many compliments on tone..their is a DIST setting i believe is what it's called on the digital screen you "have" to switch to if playin through a PA..and once you do, it will rock any PA system..i would go more into the settings, but i don't think this is the right thread to do it..but i could help anyone set their POD up to run neck to neck with any amp or effects out now..i could make anyone purchase one once i go through the set up with them..once they know how to use the POD, everyone i've shown how to set it up had to have one..it's that awesome..

YEs, there is this band, ill do some diging around to find them again
that thier whole band except the drummer plays through podxts
through thier PA's with monitors, and do alot of Zepplin,
they get dead on tones live, there are alot of musicians that
    have them in thier racks.
believe me i love live amps and have five amps, but damn
those Pods get tones and effects i cant get with my amps
they are hard to set up with a regular amp you need a clean
chanel to use through a regular amp but its possible.
But yea, you have to have a little "Geek" in you to learn
how to set them up to sound right, but the sound is in them
Out of all the recordings i have, only two of my recordings are
done with live amps, the rest are with the Podxt, bass also

    i just love them
