Gonna try something new here.. There are a bunch of great players among us. Perhaps we can start a Backing Track Play Along right here in the Modeling room. ALL are welcome to play. Yes, Tube guys too. I have a bunch of backing tracks I can post. Lets see how this goes.

You can download this track from my Box Account. Play to it then upload it to this thread. This "Should" be fun if we get buy in. Otherwise it will just die on the vine.

Here we go. A nice slow blues track with just bass and drums.I have recorded over this already but I will wait for you guys before I post.

    Here's my go.....

Slow blues is totally NOT my thing. I tried something different to help me "slow down".....I played finger-style for the first time. As a regular bassist, I never use a pick, so it wasn't TOO much of a stretch....

Gear (since that what we REALLY care about, lol) -

    * Guitar - Pro Series Gretsch Duo Jet. I used the neck pickup with the tone/mud switch in the up position. The Gretsch has the "hi sensitivity" Filtertrons - not the TV Jones. Output is LOW - like 3.8 or something on the neck pickup.

    * "Amp" - Line 6 Helix Rack. I went and made an "old school" rig for this. I really dig it. Here's the details:

    - Mail Order Twin (Silvertone 1484).
    - Drive: 8.3
    - Bass: 5.1
    - Mid: 5.0
    - Treble: 6.7
    - Presence: 0
    - Ch. Vol: 9.2
    - Master: 10
    - Power Amp Settings: FACTORY

    * "Cabs" - Factory Helix cabs. I have a ton of IRs, but have found the Helix cabs to be perfectly sufficient for ALL my uses. I have ZERO 3rd Party IRs loaded.

    - Cab 1: 1x12 Field Coil
    - Mic: 87 Condenser
    - Dist: 5.5
    - Lo Cut: 160
    - Hi Cut: off
    - Early Refl: 31%
    - Level: 0 db

    - Cab 2: 1x8 Tweed
    - Mic: 67 Condenser
    - Dist: 3.5
    - Lo Cut: 140
    - Hi Cut: off
    - Early Refl: 17%
    - Level: 0 db

    * Effects - Transistor Tape Delay (placed in front of the amp)
    - Time: 1/4
    - Feedback: 10%
    - Wow/Flut: 4.5
    - Scale: 100%
    - Spread: 2.9
    - Mix: 38%
    - Level: 0
    - Headroom: -3.6

    * Recording process:

I used Pro Tools. I processed the backing track with the Waves Abbey Road EMI TG12345 console plug-in. I also used the Waves NLS Channel plug-in. I added some "console drive" to color the track. The guitar was recorded and then duplicated. The original track got the TG12345 plug-in. The duplicate was processed as a parallel effect track. I used the Abbey Road Plates plug-in and the SSL Compressor, in that order. I like to compress the "reverb". Both guitars were sent to a Aux/bus which was processed with the NLS Channel. On the Master fader, I used the SSL Compressor followed by the NLS Bus. In the NLS I add a little bit of "noise" and "drive".

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the track, lol!!!

Nice Frank!! The Peavey...is that the non-EVH Wolfgang?

Thanks Bro. yeah. The Peavey is the "better" Wolfgang. Double coil splits and a full floating trem instead of the Wolfgangs dive only.

Since most of the rock and roll we listen to is based on the blues I think this is a great exercise for those that want to tune up their chops.. Think of it as a lesson... For all..
