Depends on how you define worthless :)

Not every thread needs to be strictly on topic and only contain factual information...

Whoa... I think that's over the line, I really do. Trolling is not equal to "having a different view".

grumphh has stated his opinion, and I have enjoyed taking my stance. His contributions to this thread have been contributions.

I don't want this post to be taken the wrong way, as if I'm being sarcastic... so I will restate it... grumphh has advanced this thread, and brought positive things to it.

I might disagree with him about Petey's roll in the grand scheme of awesomeness, but that doesn't keep me from appreciating that he's adding to a discussion.

Thanks for the kind words - I first heard of The Who when I was 12 - my mum brought some tapes form the library for me to listen to and one was "The Who by Numbers" - I played that album over and over [mama's got a squeeze box is still a camp fireside acoustic winner amoungst my friends]

It was after listening to that album that I wanted to learn to play - 2 months later I got my first guitar - a nylon string acoustic....the rest as they say is History.

I opened this thread because I love old guitars - and love people who are inovative, and I really thing Pete Townsend was the quintessential guitarists guitarist [if that makes sense]. The Who's live show was just something else - together they have a raw power - may I say "Magic" that takes me away from my dull life and brings me into a world of awesome rock excitement!

Well thats me anyway.... and to add some more pics to this thread [as I dont have a Norlin [yet]:

    [Thanks to MLP member Deftone:]

Point well made, I apologize. You are right, I was irked by the constant contrarian nature. I'd been restraining the personalized characterizations until the statement that not all posts needed to be factual.

But, as you so adroitly point out, his opinions allowed development of the thread in factual ways that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

Thank you for your patience in helping me see grumphh as something more than someone with his fingers in his ears, remaining contrary to the facts presented here. My opinion of him may not change much, but I willingly do agree, and acknowledge he has had a positive influence.

And yes, way thanks to ajory72, I've had fun revisiting The Who. The documentary I dug up earlier is one I had not seen before..

    Peace.

Back to the original topic. I have always been a big fan of the live The Who sound when PT was playing a Gibson.

My fave was the 1969/1970 use of the Gibson SG Special followed by the 1975-1978 use of the Deluxe and Deluxe with the DiMarzio mod.

Well, to be fair, that is a photo-retouch, from the days before Photoshop.

Pete wasn't running a stack-and-a-half. The mic stand by Pete's foot isn't even pasted in a straight line. And his guitar cable just passes across the front of the 4x12 and ends.

The mic on Keith's drum is cut in half (below Pete's foot in retouch, above Pete's foot in original).

    Still...... cool pic.

An epic ancestral strenght, power, resistance, punch and courage.
There is nothing like the WHO. They are inimitable.
    They are purely british.....

Many bands could be similar in some way, but not the WHO.

Let these dwarfs squeak about them, they can not play a note with that force.

Cheers - I will look closer next time :) - I thought his prowess as a rock god transcended the laws of gravity too [but I was wrong] :laugh2:

Now i'm off to show my kids the dangers of full straight arm swinging to strum guitars... and scissor jump in the process :dude:

Hilarious, depressing posts by the Who-haters. There's no arguing with you, particularly since you mostly use absurd criteria anyway. We get it. You, personally, hate the Who. Absolutely fine. Just be aware that multi-millions of people, many of them far smarter, more empathetic, more good looking, better-educated, technically better on the guitar, and nicer than you or me love the Who for their own reasons -- reasons just as good as yours.
