I was going to put this in the pedal section, but the poll would obviously be biased with everyone saying yes.

Im curious to how many of us use them. As many probably guess, I do. I love them!

How about you? Do you plug straight in, or do you use a few, or maybe a big board?

Id love to hear your thoughts.

Right now, I only regularly use a boost to kick my amp up a notch or two (it's actually an OD, set to zero gain but raised output for transparent boost). I have a Behringer digital delay that I use very rarely (it lags when kicking on and off, meaning the delay isn't always there when I need it -- junk).

I'm looking for a decent multiFX because I do sometimes use a touch of reverb, chorus, and delay.

I went through a phase of plugging straight in for a few years, and it's not a bad approach, but I like getting covers close to the original sonically, even though I never try note-for-note playing-wise. I still want it to sound in the ballpark.

I only use a channel switch but I don't consider that to be a pedal.

I think phasers and flangers are really fun. especially with a bass guitar.

All that I use is a 6G15 outboard spring reverb that I built, not really a pedal.
    Does that count?

    It all depends.

I can plug straight in to my MarkV and play for hours.
I also have a multi FX unit I can do the same with.

It all depends on what itch on the insides of my brain I needs to be scratchin today.

I don't have an equalizer pedal. I have one of pretty much every standard pedal, but 4 OD/distortion ones. My AmPlug is a bit fussy sometimes, so I plug into a channel of my mixer and route that into a Red Box 5 and into another channel. I always have at least one pedal in use to mess with (and it is messy...)

I used to use a few here and there. Still have some.
    Fuzz
    Slash Wah
    Grunge
    Chorus
    Tube Screamer
Maybe one other I'm not thinking of.

Then I bought a friedman small box. Best amp I owned. But needed some cash and it was waaaaaay too much amp for my basement. Could get any tone I wanted from it. Got used to never using a pedal.

Now I have a fender EC Tremolux and I love the amp. However it has trem only which is almost dumb sounding if you're not doing surf music.

What I could use is a real light reverb. I don't love reverb, but also realize you kind of need it a little or the notes can sound short.

    A pinch here
    A soupçon there
A sprinkle of fairy dust when needed.
Like cooking:- condiments, herbs, spices added judiciously help it along...

No recent pics, but these were the boards I was using ... before Rocksmith. I'd probably reduce them a bit today. Then again maybe not, I had a reason for every pedal.

I have approx 11 pedals on my big gigging board. I could get by with just a tuner and a lead boost of some sort. Technically i could just use the tuner and my volume knob. I would miss my wha. 95% of the time I'm playing "straight" in, especially with my original band, but I do like to have options when the need arises.

The most I've ever used at one time was seven pedals (not all at once!). Like Therm said, judicious use is where it's at, for me. Don't mistake the icing for the cake.

I love playing bass with a chorus. It adds so much character.
