Hey, thanks for the reply. I have a photo and I think I will start another thread in the luthier's corner section about the wiring. I am still in process of softening the edges up and dirtying the wood. When I get finished I will take some better pics!

Hey man, its looking good so far. One thing I would add is pick wear where the bare wood is exposed right between the Neck and middle pickups. Just take a pick and really scrap that area over as if you were playing it really hard and accidently hitting the body. Then rub a little dirt and grime in the grooves to simulate where your sweat and other nasty human products have accumulated over the years

Thanks for the suggestion. Will do, I think you are right it is looking a bit bare in that area. The Masterbuilt relics have a dark stain in that area. Like this...

I was thinking about simulating that, but I am not sure what they did to get the effect. Wood stain??:hmm:

    I love how she's coming along. :)

A guy calld chiblues68 has gone the other way with a John Mayer replica. It WOULD make more sense that the pick wear would lighten the wood.:

That looks great! As always, thanks for the good advise my friend. :D

I've been working on the guitar a bit this week and hopefully will make some solid progress this weekend. I need to darken the bare wood a bit more and soften the breaks some more too. After I get done I will post some more pics and see what you all think.

Also, I had a dud middle pickup and have found a replacement on eBay. It should arrive next week. :dude:

That looks like a really clean soldering job, NXC :thumb: All I can gather from that is you have a cold joint somewhere in there. Best to just clean it up with some flux and resolder everything rather than try to hunt it down by trial and error. Don't forget to turn the pots down to 0, lest you burn one up.

Kspeed- thanks for the help, I found the problem was a dud middle pickup. Just my luck!

Aidb- thanks again for the useful link. It have the body real close to where I want it, I feel I'm down to the fine details so those photos will really help.

Scotty- I appreciate the comment! Also, I gave your email to my friend Brian who is thinking about building a blackie clone so he may be contacting you soon about a 57 style nitro neck.

Well, I got the replacement pu installed and it solved my problem. this guitar sounds really great! It resonates very well. You can really feel it in the guitar body while your playing. Also, I worked on the finish a bit more, updated pics comming soon!

Now I'm just down to the fine details on the finish and fine tuning the string setup.

Last thing I'd probably think of is the actual pu.

Looking forward to your pics. :)

Brand new set of Fender Custom shop pickups! I must have checked each wire ten times thinking it couldn't be the pu's, but sure enough.

By the way, can you or anyone else make a recomendation on what to use to "dirty up" the wood?
