That's CLASSIC BP! LOL. Nicest guy on the forum just dropped the mic on ol' Antigua. haha
Now we can get back to having fun!
Then next time it will be six months.
Anything after that will be one year, then perma.
But hey, As Russ Crowe shouted to the crowd in the Coliseum, "Are you not entertained??"
Yaaaa! That’s it right there, damn good laugh!
So, you're saying it's at least 21 months before we're rid of him forever?
I haven't got involved in any of his battles, because I know nothing about pickup manufacture. I can barely swap one.
But I'll miss reading his favorite word, "inductance."
The grand thing of it is, one doesn't need to know anything about pickups to go 'round with "Agita" or whatever his name is.
He'll argue the friggin' phone book, if given a chance.
I'd like to induct Antiqua into the A-hole HOF. He's earned it.
Images appear to be working here....
Nice to see the facts and the reason behind all this! Also nice to see the perpatrator on vacation...hope he stays gone.
You know, I didn't read this entire thread when I took action. There were multiple post reports, and the team here has been round and round again with antigua.
So I just banned his ass. Enough.
But tonight I decided to read this thread in detail.
And what I come away with are two distinct things:
1) ThroBack is a knowledgeable, articulate vendor who makes a fine product, and is able to field any questions of his product. He knows his stuff.
2) Antigua is an unreasonable, insufferable and acerbic f*ck who shouldn't be allowed to foul any forum, let alone this one.
And as someone pointed out upthread, when one accuses or starts a dust-up over an issue, it is up to them, the problem-starter to provide the proof.
Ain't it funny how he danced around that? ThroBack had him cold.
He may be back in 90 days, but he won't last long. I will not suffer, nor let this forum suffer this man any more than they have to. First sign of crap, he'll be gone for good. No more chances.
That's the best news I've read in a long time. It was about time.
From a Lt. to another Lt.: Thank you! You ROCK!!!!
Yours very truly,
Always some damn Jimmery popping up......
Dude didn't get mouth-checked enough growing up...
Soup through a straw allows time for reflection....
He was like a truck parked on the balls......
To me the Antiqua posts just amount to a bunch of noise. I'm not even bothered by them. They are predictable, negative wallpaper. He's a skeptic, it's the easiest job in the world and requires no resume. All you have to do is say no and wait for the world to seek your approval. Good luck with that.
I'm pretty sure Antiqua thinks pickup tone can be broken down into a standard graphical or numeric rating system. I have found frequency pots and inductance readings tell very little about how a pickup will sound and feel to the player. Based upon my experience the best way to judge tone is by playing a guitar with gear that you are familiar with as a reference. Tonal preference is still very personal and the best any pickup maker can do is use their own ears and experience and the feedback of customers to judge tone and improve what they make.
Yes indeed,Jon....and that’s why we love ya!
There are a lot of people who seem to think this. Perhaps overwhelmed by the complexity of the world they seek to hide in a simpler viewpoint so not to scare themselves.
It is certainly a complex area, pickups. So many variables, and seeming a (many?) non-linear response in there somewhere. Pickups with superficially the same numbers behave incredibly different once plugged in - with the dynamics that is the artistry of playing.
He does think he can boil it down to a simple formula. I suspect he really does not have any formal education in the field of physics.
I minored in it (a long time ago now) but do not consider myself to be an expert in any way. However, it isn't hard to see that the wire itself likely has minute changes in it's cross diameter. A pickup typically has something like 10,000 winds I believe? So surely it must. And with that many winds I have to also believe there are at least minute changes in tension along the way. And I don't believe any 2 pickups could be wound identically for those reasons and others like the exact placement of the winds from one to another.
Sometimes instead of trying to analyze something to death, one should just let the art of the music tell you all you need to know.
