Good day, I just ordered one of these from Craig. Stoked about popping it into my new Yamaha Revstar RS320! Anybody try one??

Good day. And welcome to day 6.

I actually purchased Craig's first prototype of this pickup and got it at the same time as the 6070's set back in April. You actually pointed me in that direction. Thanks for that.

Just recently the Sours got jury rigged into an LPC with the PCB and molex plugs.

I haven't spent very much time playing lately, let alone with this set but what I have noticed is that this set seems a little more aggressive than 6070's.

I'm still not much up on tonz speak but I think I would grab this LP over the 6070's for Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. The pickup name, Whisky Sour, to me implied a Skynard or 38 Special tone, but I think I would still go to the 6070's for that. Cleans are impressive too.

I don't think you will be disappointed.

Right on, Jym. I could have gone for the sure thing with a 6070. I have enjoyed playing on that pup more than any other. However, I wanted to try another of Craig’s winds, and this one seems a better match to the Alnico V pup I have planned for the neck. The Yammy plays nice with the stock ceramic pups and they seem to be high output. I think the Whiskey Sour will prove to be a great RAWK pup, perfect for my needs.

The few times I did play the Sours,
I think you will really like them. You actually get out there and play live at party volume. These pickups need a little headroom to shine.

I wasn't very impressed the first time I tried them out at bedroom volume on a 3.5 inch speaker.
The next day I went out on the back deck and I plugged them in to the MarkV.

    WOW

I just kept wanting to turn it louder and louder.

Awesome RAWK pickups IMHO. Expect to want to put in a few extra hours of playing. :jam:

    TOUCHDOWN!

This is a really, really great RAWK pup. The note compression is fantastic! I can hammer on BASIC chords with heavy FUZZ and every note comes through. It also has a beautiful clean tone. Has some jangle to it, perfect for some tremelo and reverb on it. A bit warmer and more focused than how the 6070 sounds in my Northern (crap shoot there, very different guitars). It's transformed this Revstar.

    Good to hear NGG !
I'm glad you like the new pups. :jam:

I was playing with my Sours the other day and I was noticing that I was leaning towards Strat sounds.

I was wanting to play Headpins, Colin James, Dead Kennedy's and surf sounding stuff.

Now I'm not saying that these pickups will sound like a Strat, but like you said, they have kind of a jangle to it, perfect for some tremelo and reverb. Strat'esque if you will.

Do you get that Strat kind of feel from it ???

Hmm....Strat-like, you say? I’m gonna have plenty time to figure it out, winter break is here. I can’t say if it does or not. I learned Spanish Castle Magic w/ improvised shit solo, will have to give that a go.

Finally got around to using this with my Orange and it continues to impress me. It was nailing the early AC/DC tone! The Whole Lotta Rosie has plenty of bite!! I love that this pup plays well with the bashing of basic chords. We cover a few AC/DC tunes and I've adopted a style much like Malcolm Young. The wrong pup with this approach can lead to fizz or mud-city. The WS handles this all wonderfully.

Jymbo is correct, it sounds so much better with volume in front of it. I am so looking forward to next jam where I can wind it out a bit.

I was playing my shit version of Spanish Castle Magic today. And while I didn't quite hear a Strat-tone, it did sound wonderful to my ears. I'll repeat that this pup is really focused, loving the mids. It really punches. However, when strumming some cowboy or surf chords, it did give that classic sound.

I'm glad you had chance to let them roar.

With a little air space these pups can soar.
