Picked up a CAD M179 today. Plan is to use it for micing toms. It's got a reputation for being a poor man's Sennheiser MD421 for toms. I plan on getting two more. My initial impression is you get a lot of features for the price. Fully variable pickup pattern. You can go from Omnidirectional to 8 and everything in between. It also comes with a handy -20 dB pad and a high-pass filter (I think at 40 Hz cut. So far I've just had a chance to try it on my voice. It's very neutral which is what I was expecting. It's supposedly also has a really wide frequency spectrum. I'll try it on the toms tonight. I'll have to experiment some with mic placement.
