Been looking at black guitars with binding.
Not ready to commit to a LP Custom.
    Then this appears.
Next thing I know I'm swapping an amp for it,.
2 Gibson humbuckers of unknown origin (Gibson USA embossed underneath in 2 different fonts) and a SD JB with coil tap.
Not sure what kinda neck, but it's 60's Gibson skinny.
There's something about it I really like, but it's so different from anything I've owned...
    Sounds good...plays good...looks cool... 015.JPG 017.JPG

I had some time to plug this one in today.
I can't believe how much I like it.
Pickups read 8.69, 7.5 and 8.68...right in that sweet low output spot.
Bridge PU has a coil tap and is super spanky...think Rebel Rebel or All Right Now, when cranked.
I think all bridge pickups are too thin until the amp gets cranked.
Whoever set it up did a great job.
Action was buzz free and shredder low...I raised it a bit.
Saddles are high and there appears to be a shim in the pocket.
Maybe I'll take out the shim and lower the saddles...maybe not.
Bending seems smooth...the guitar is pretty snappy.
I use light strings (tendon stuff), so some break angle over the bridge can stiffen things up a bit...or make it feel that way, or something.
I thought I was just going to flip this one, but I'll probably hold onto it for awhile.
And it'll look killer with a black outfit ;)

Y'know...I took this thing to rehearsal last night and it's freakin' amazing.
I keep a Princeton Reverb at the rehearsal space and I know I particularly like the sound of humbuckers through it...but there's something about this guitar!
My current giggers are a 65 Firebird III, a 69 ES330, a 69 Tele, 50s Tribute LP (P90s) and a Jimmie Vaughan Strat...but this weird (for me) guitar really speaks to me.
And it has so much sustain I'm not even sure what to do with it.

    Really nice 'Tele'.
That DCR for the JB seems low. This that the S/C reading?

    You're probably right.
Not sure where the coil tap switch was.
I'm betting the reading would be around double (duh!) what I quoted.
I'm not much of a bridge pickup guy, but, with the amp overdriving, this one is very cool.
This guitar is a weird, almost existential, situation for me.
I play a lot of vintage stuff, much of it with P90s.
It's part of the image I have for myself that I play a certain kind of guitar.
Now, along comes this thing that seems so far from what I've been playing for years.
I wonder how many folks like me (or even myself) would love a Charvel or Steve Vai Ibanez, but couldn't bring themselves to gig one with their Country/Blues/Jazz/whatever band.
This has been a real mental/musical hotfoot for me!

Wow, EVH himself would be impressed with that harmony of otherwise-disparate parts. Looks great!

    OK...problem over.
I gigged this thing last night and it's the best sounding guitar I've EVER played.
    No idea why...
    Random parts making magic.
I wouldn't care if it looked like a pointy shredder with a lightning bolt shaped headstock.
    I'm giggin' it!!!
