The missus scored this one on the bay as an early birthday present for yours truly. We got it for a great deal due to the unoriginal pickups + surrounds, and some potential wiring issues. It should arrive tomorrow morning :thumb:

Picked it up this morning! had to work all day, so I haven't had much time to spend with it yet, but first impressions are:

    - CRAZY heavy! (probably 13lbs) in a good way though, because:

    - even CRAZIER sustain!

    - awesome 50's type neck profile, quite similar to both of my Burnys

Definitely a keeper, although the pickups and electronics will have to go. The neck pickup is the original, while the bridge is a 90's Ibanez V2 pickup from an RG probably. The pots, switch, and jack are functional but not ideal. Planning on replacing with bourns pots and switchcraft jack and toggle. Might try some tonerider or GFS pickups in this one.

    thanks guys!

ordered a No. 1 stretch strap to help compensate for the weight of this beast, as well as some new pickup rings and a few other odds and ends.

Decided to err on the frugal side of things and give these pickups a whirl: Eric Custom WORLD-25

It's in pretty good shape, the fretboard has some curious gouges and scrapes around the 12th and 13th frets, and the nibs on those frets have been filed off vigorously for some reason also. Was some kid fixing to scallop this poor thing??

Also, whoever put the mis-matched cream pickup rings on used gigantic screws that cracked the insides of the pickup routes!

Minor issues in the face of how good it sounds and how well it plays.

The pickup screw holes can be filled and rings replaced and remounted properly. The nibs problem is more difficult, but a good luthier can fix those too.

I'm thinking I'll get the cracks glued and mounting holes filled and redrilled, but I'll probably just leave the nibs alone for now.

I'd imagine the only way to fix them without replacing the binding would be the "baking soda and superglue" trick, which given the surface area in question would be a nightmare to do

I always wondered what an LP would look like if you took the same cutaway dimensions and put it on the other side. Looks very cool, like the Yamaha SG's.

    Nice score man!

    Thanks Cap'n!

I've always dug the look of Doublecut LP's, and have tried to jive with numerous Ibanez Artists, Yamaha SBG's, Hamers and the like, but never found one that felt right. I'm super lucky we took the chance on this, it's definitely a keeper and even with the questionable pickups and wiring I find myself reaching for it more often than any of my others.

    Let me dissent.
I have 2 genesis and tested many others.
The 2 Custom I own weigh 10.5 lbs and 10.2 lbs.
Surely Brian who has at least 5 Genesis could tell us what the average weight of his guitars.

Since it does not have the original pickups it would put some Duncan antiquity.
I think it would perfect on this babe.

I was just kidding about the 16 lb Genesis. I only recall the older models which i loved but felt like 16 lbs. They were reissued some time ago. I'm guessing the newer ones are lighter. Sorry for any confusion.
