    Hey folks!

This week I got this unusual guitar. It's (most likely) an 80s japanese Les Paul model which goes by the brand of "Rands" (not to be confused with Rand Havener's 'Rand' guitars) - I never heard of that label.

The axe has some interesting features to it: Almost one-piece mahogany neck, no volute, but then a pancake-body with veneers on top and back. Neck PU is a DiMarzio Super Distortion, bridge PU most likely an aftermarket Shadow Humbucker. Mini-Toggles seem to be aftermarket, too. Pots are 250k.
Pickup-selector switch + ring are solid brass.

Overall, a solid guitar with a lot of 80s-vibe. Can anybody imagine or has a clue which factory produced it?

    Best regards, Oliver

Hey Peter, I'm not sure! ;)
Hardware & Electronics are MIJ. Trussrod cover has three screws, could be Korea as well.

It looks 70's MIJ to me with the tuners and the truss rod cover which looks like old Aria Pro so Matsumoku perhaps? That is a bit of a stab in the dark though.

Thanks for your input, Peter & wulfman

Tuners / Hardware point towards Japan, true. Neck heel looks like Aria, too.

Has anybody seen a multipiece / pancake body on a MIJ guitar yet , tho?

Also, brass poker chip & jackplate. Aftermarket or factory?

    Best regards!

The electronics are MIJ but possibly replacements, cause they are not vintage! The pancake body though, could be an indicator! Pancake bodies were pretty common on 70's MIJ, unlike the 80's and 90's MIK (and MIJ) LPs! So I'll stick with Wulf!
