This was a guitar that I added to my regular search list about a year ago. Finally broke down and snagged one and I'm really glad I did. I love LP's and 335's and this sits in that middle ground between them both. It's heavier, like a LP, but not obnoxiously so. I don't have an issue with the size of a 335, but the size of this body (slightly smaller than a 335) just seems perfect. It has a 60's slim neck, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it seems to be on the larger side vs some others that have had this neck shape. Pickups are Burstbucker 1/2.

Because I can't just leave things alone, I'm planning some mods already. I fell in love with the look (and sound) of this particular Midtown Custom, played by Greg of Greg's Guitars, that had the chrome hardware swapped for aged gold and had lightly aged binding.

I'm going with gold Grover Rotomatic Keystones, gold Duncan Antiquity humbuckers and a gold Bigsby B6 with gold Towner Bar. I also have a set of gold reflector knobs like shown in the pic.

What about how it feels and plays? It has a flat top?

I love the looks of these. I already have a LP Custom Lite, and SG Standard that cover the Gibson double HB tones- but I can't stop lusting after a Midtown Custom. Does it occupy its own tonal niche?

Love it! Always been tempted by one of these..if it weren't for the skinny neck.

Now swap all the hardware with gold plated and you have the right look for this guitar! :applause:

Nice! Yeh, that aged gold + bigsby look is killer, go for it! Did they do these with P90s?

I go out of my way to try and not watch Greg's demos.
I figured out a while back that every time I did, I bought one of whatever he was playing.
When I got em, they never sounded like his.
    I think it's a scam! :rofl::rofl:

Plays and feels great. I've been playing a couple of vintage slab-body mahogany LP Specials for a while now and the flat top doesn't bother me one bit. It definitely has elements of both LP (more immediate attack) and 335 tonality. Best of both worlds to me.

They offer(ed) a couple different options on the Midtowns. One did come with P90's, but they gave it a narrower headstock and changed the control layout. I could probably live with the controls like that, but the headstock is just wrong.

Yeah, there are 3 videos of him playing this guitar. The A-string apparently popped out on video #2. It's back in place on the other 2. Didn't seem to affect the tone. :)

I am a Tele player- with two LPs. I rather like the idea of a flat top, now that I think about it.

We got a sunburst in the family, with a Vibra-Mate mounted bigsby. Those necks play like butter ounce its setup good.

Yeah, I made a little neck adjustment and dropped the bridge a bit and the action is super low and plays great.

Also...Richlite? I got no problems with that either. Looks, sounds and feels like Ebony to me.

It could be old shoes, it matters not. What does is how they play, and a durability stand point. All the rest is just internet voodo, usuay by those that don't own one. They are not unlike a Les Paul Custom with wings actually.
    And yes, they are Richlite.
