I picked up a 2013 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II Gold Top with a 50's neck in trade. She's a little dirty and the bridge is deeply grooved, but I'm pretty damned happy with this.

Sorry for the crappy cell pics; I'll get better ones.

I'm probably going to gut the pots and booster system and got to a two-conductor style setup (translation: money pit.) The guitar is in really great shape - I actually think the construction is better than my 2016 Traditional.

Thanks, guys! I'm probably going to keep the bridge and just replace the saddles. Everything on this is properly worn and I'm kinda digging it. A bit of natural relic, I can live with.

I have a question - are titanium saddles snake oil or worth the extra $20 or so bucks for a set? What do they bring to the table?

I'm comparing against the chrome saddles Stew Mac sells.

The titanium saddles I'm looking at are not high polish, so they won't stand out against the patina the bridge has gathered.

Goldtop les pauls are the greatest...equalled only by a Steinway and Sons Grand...

There is no equal in the guitar world imho...

    Yours is a stunner...

I have them on my trad. I don't notice anything, but that isn't saying much because I've never A/B them against anything else.

I love my '13 TP2. I didn't know they came in Goldtop, good for you! I also yanked all the fancy schmancy push-pull stuff and threw in some Suhr Aldrich pups, and really brought it to life. Congratulations!

No, not me. I've never really been a big GT guy for whatever reason... but all these GTs showing up in NGD threads (and just generally Christosterone's presence on MLP ;)) have begun to sway me. Recently I looked at 2013 Trad GT for sale on my local CL. Was a killer deal (and a pristine guitar), but it was almost 10lbs and I just don't buy heavy LPs. If/when I find a nice sub-9lbs GT for a screamin' deal I may get one. In the meantime I'll just live vicariously through my fellow MLPers. :D

I ordered chrome saddles from StewMac for now, along with some other stuff I've been putting off buying (action gauge, fingerboard guards, fret erasers, etc.)

Thanks again for all the positive vibe, guys.

I'm going to try to do everything myself on this one.

    REPAIRS/UPGRADES:

    • Clean - as mentioned, this is one dirty girl. Once I have her stripped down, I'll clean the grime. That includes the fretboard and the frets. I bought fret erasers; it'll be the first time I've tried them. The bridge, stoptail. pickups, and tuners are "well-used," I think is the term. I'm going to clean but not spend any time taking the hazy scuffing out of anything. The paint is beginning to turn that "greenish" tinge that you sometimes see and it looks pretty good.
    • Bridge saddles - keeping the bridge, but replacing the saddles with un-notched chrome saddles from StewMac. I bought a string spacing ruler, and I'll try to notch the saddles myself and set her up.
    • Gut the control cavity - I purchased 4 500k CTS pots and .022 orange drop caps from StewMac - I'll be re-wiring the guitar as "modern," not 50's, eliminating both the push/pull pots and the boost system. Fire department is on speed dial.
    • Minor stuff - for the aesthetics, I also bought nickel control knob indicators. The pickups are staying for the time being - the neck is a 57 Classic and the bridge is a Super 57. We'll see how they sound.
    • Test, reassemble with 10-52 NYXL, and see what happens.
