Not a vintage or anything that exciting. Just a 2017 Firebird T in Pelham Blue. I love the way the pickups sound at bedroom volumes, but haven't had a chance to jam with them yet. I am aware that they are the vintage in-correct high resistance ceramics, but they sound like Claptons old FB to me. Always wanted a Firebird, mostly because of the shape and feel - and this one hangs just right and plays like a dream, nice smooth action, great neck profile. Plus it is light as a feather :)

    HNGD, bud.

Even if the pickups don't sound vintage-correct -- and they don't to my ears, whatever -- what's great about them is with a little care about where you're picking and how your amp is dialed in, you'll be able to get Tele-tones from the bridge pickup, and Paul tones from the neck. Use your ears and go slow, that guitar has a lot of sound in it.

Play it in health and make 'er sing, brotha.

Thanks guys! Very excited to see how this settles in the mix at rehearsal next week. I have never played FB pickups (or even mini-hums, which I know are not the same, but they look similar, so I can't help connecting them in my head) live before, so it'll be a total experiment. I'll have to do a lot of fiddling with amp and pedal settings, maybe for a couple of days worth of practices, to get the mix where I like it, assuming it can be done to my particular tastes. Might have to fiddle with pick up heights too - often that is the case. So it sometimes ends up taking me a couple of weeks before I even know if I can bond with a guitar beyond the bedroom, sometimes. (Although, I have had a few that just sounded great from the second I plugged in, no fiddling necessary - quite a few actually). I do know, however, the feel of the thing is perfect. I admit, I checked myself out in the mirror with the thing hangin' from my shoulder - looks kinda funny - bigger looking then I predicted, with that reverse-horn going off to the right. Weird, but I like it.

I played a 1995 FB V in black for a couple of years as my #1 gigging guitar. The crowd always loved the Firebird! I would guess that maybe they've updated the ceramic pickups since then as I have heard more favorable reviews of them in recent years.

Mine excelled at middle position cleans (slightly dirty) R&B type tones. The neck pickup was great on its own and with a bunch of fuzz through an old Marshall.

If I still had the guitar, I would have changed the pickups, but circumstances dictated I turn it into rent money. Sheesh.

Very nice! Firebirds just work in those old school metallic finishes.

Very nice... I had been watching the Pelham blue for a year, it really is a cool color although I
did like the white from a few years ago... My local GC marked down the one they had.
I put it on layaway, waiting to use my gc bucks (which arrive in a week or two).

I have to caution you on those Firebirds...I got the one in my pretty picture as a Christmas gift to myself last year...and since then, have bought a 2008 in cream white...They are sneaky like Les Pauls and Telecasters, man...get one and you want more...
    but they play so GOOD!!!

The rolled bindings on the 2017s make the neck feel incredible. I wonder if they did that on other 2017 models?
