Had my eye on these for a while, and when AMS dropped the price from $899 to $809, I jumped. She arrived in a sealed Gibson box, and fit & finish are outstanding. I tweaked the nut slots and relief to my liking today, and she plays like a dream. I also installed a poker chip, and a blank truss rod cover I had lying around. I wasn't sure how I'd like the satin finish, but I dig it, and I really like the natural binding...my only minor gripe (and it's not really a gripe so much as an observation) is that the thin finish isn't as durable as a full-blown, high-gloss finish - I managed to put a couple tiny dings in the top while installing the poker chip. It's OK though, good to get the first dings out of the way early, and move on...

It's got a nice center-matched two-piece back, locking Grovers, and man, the P-90s sound great. I had to jack the tailpiece up pretty high to get the "slinky" factor where I wanted it, so I may consider top-wrapping at the next string change. I've really wanted a Goldtop (and an LP with P-90s) for a long time, and I like the way the stripped-down appointments set it apart from my '95 and '16 Standards.

An abr type bridge & a topwrap would look beautiful on that.

I just got 2 guitars, both with P90s (Sam Ash blowout) and I've never had a p90 guitar before. They are different for sure. Noisy, but they sing. Mine have the slugs, so idk if that's a different sound than more common/popular type you have.

Goldtops make me happy to be alive...

The light back Tributes with faux binding are effing awesome...

And with the p90s, this thing is a home run..

Congrats on getting a goldtop...a goldtop les Paul is the single most iconic musical piece of artwork on earth...

    Love the p90s...and reflectors

I love it! Fantastic guitar, especially for the price. I love the faded gold finish on mine.

    Happy NGD!!!

    Great guitar.

I had a 2010 that I had to sell. I still miss it.

Do these have modern weight relief? 50's neck, or 60's neck?

Mine could do everything from jazz and rock-a-billy to Led Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy, quite authentically.

Dame that's really nice... I had one and traded it for an amp but it was a dark burst colour. Wasn't near as nice as yours! Didn't have the binding or nothing... that's beautiful bro! I love goldtops... next purchase on a guitar I plan on getting a SG Standard or a Goldtop Les Paul of some type.

Thanks - it has the 9-hole weight relief. I haven't weighed it, but it's quite light, and the body is slightly thinner than my Standards; it doesn't seem like a "skinny" Les Paul when playing or looking at it though. The neck is slim-taper, feels almost identical to my '16 Standard.

    Good info! Thanks. :yesway:

As far as I know, my 2010 had modern weight relief. It sounded almost chambered, which was a good thing, IMHO. Mine weighed 7lb, 7oz! It was a very "lively" guitar and it could cop killer early Led Zeppelin tones, even with the P-90's. Old Marshall, a touch of fuzz...:headbanger::headbanger::headbanger:

When I end up finally getting a gold top, it will most definitely be with the natural back/sides.

I never liked dark back GTs. The bonamassa sig was turn off for that reason. Just preference. I prefer to see wood grain on almost any guitar over a fully painted body. It's too beautiful to cover up.

Thanks! Yeah Gold Tops and Specials are pretty much my weaknesses. I have an AC30 and an Orange Dual Terror too but the misses will not allow me to keep them in the corner of the front room. As they say "The struggle is real when you're about happy wife happy life" haha
