Well this may or may not be a Happy NGD...

I've been dying for a SG with a Maestro and finally found a great deal on a new conversion job.

It arrived today with what looks like a neck crack or the beginnings of one...or is it just the finish?

I'm attaching a couple pictures. When blown up in Microsoft Paint it looks bad to me...Understand these are high res photos with flash it doesn't look quite so bad to the naked eye...

    Opinions Please!!!!

If its holding tune and doesn't seem to move, you might be ok. How good a deal was it? If it is enough that paying to have a repair done doesn't sound so bad, keep it

Pretty sure (along with most else here) that's a finish crack. It can be cosmetically repaired to where you wouldn't even see it.

It is interesting that the cracking is on both sides of the neck..

could be finish crack..but usually not on both sides of a neck..
But Dave would know much better than me..

the nut was put on before the guitar was completely finished so it is possible that it may have moved causing the crack. the low E string side it the more iffy one though.

I'm not sure about that being on both sides like it is. If it's not a big deal I'd exchange it.

Looks like a finish crack to me.

But I wouldn't keep it, will likely be a problem in future sells.

I'm often amused by some of the "send it back " comments , but this one ?
Finish crack ? On both sides ?

If it was a brand new guitar, you know you would send it back immediately.

If you got this one at a great price though, might be worth repairing the finish and seeing what happens. If it continues to crack after the repair, something's not right. Might be that something is just loose, not necessarily a lethal crack.

It's easily fixed. Someone who knows what they're doing could make it invisible and strong as new.

Regardless of what it is, I would return the guitar (if possible) unless you got it for a song only because it will be harder to sell later on. People nitpick over everything, based on my experience.

Thanks for all the input! I did get a Great Price on it AND the previous owner was able to transfer the Guitar Center Pro warranty to me. This warranty is supposed to be full replacement with a new guitar even for such things as "Drops".

I'm taking it to a Guitar Center as soon as time permits.

The package was also insured for $1500 through USPS when shipped. The seller has already filed a claim and I'm waiting to see what happens there.

...and finally this was done through Reverb where I also have buyer protection and I made contact with them. I told them the seller is being fully cooperative and he is helping as much as possible right now.

The seller has already offered to take it back, but I'm taking my chances on this one...
