Just acquired my first non-LP Gibby last week :)

I was after an Explorer to satisfy my metal ears, but then saw this V on a steal of a deal. Made in 1992, looks like it lived mostly in its (very beaten up) case, and had the pickups changed to SD Alnico Pro II's at some point. The body and neck are in immaculate shape! One slight crack in the pick guard and some strange scoring on the fretboard - that's it for damage. My only guess is someone tried to re-fret while wearing a blindfold...

I'm blown away at the quality of hardware! I've heard of the difference the 500k pots make, and now that I've felt how smooth and functional they operate, I have to upgrade my LP immediately! :hmm: Even the tuners, which appear to look the same, turn like butter and seem to work better.

This guitar wants to rip! It has a much thinner neck than what I'm used to, lower fret wire, and it's very light. The body is much thinner than I expected as well. The rosewood fretboard is very hard and dense.

One curious thing is the finish - I've never even held a satin-finished Gibson until this. It's very thin and extremely smooth. Is it still nitro?

Its been sanded down. What is the serial number? The face of the headstock should be black.

Congratulations! Like it's been said, the guitar have been stripped of the orginal finish (and probably finished in something matte). The front face of the headstock, a black fiber piece, has been removed as well, exposing the mahogany.

The hardware's been changed, too. It seems to have an ABR1 bridge and a nickel finish, when stock shoud be chrome and a Nashville. The tuners look like the stock ones, but seem to be made by Grover (most likely replaced too)

My guess is someone wanted a more vintage vibe, less "metal" than a stock V. Looks very, very good!!
