Last week when I walked past a pawn shop where I've picked up a couple of guitars in the past, a nice Alpine White Gibson LP Studio caught my eye. $999...a bit out of my price range, so I kept on going.

Today I walked past again and saw that the shop had 20% off everything. Unfortunately the Studio was on hold, but I thought I'd wander up to where their other guitars were.

There was an Ibanez 7 string that I pondered for a moment (have been curious about 7 strings/baritones)...but then I caught a glimpse of this.

Serial is F300116, so looks like one of the first few 1960 Tributes.

Strings were old, fretboard a little gunky, but everything else looked pretty good. Original hard case was included. Ticket price of $449 became $359...which I reckon is a very tidy bargain!

Popped some fresh 10-46 Slinkys on tonight, and I'm in love! I'm performing at a community Christmas carols concert next Sat and it'll almost definitely be joining me on stage with my Strat.

Alos added a pic of it with my MIK 56 Gold Top...

Have you checked the PUPs to see if they are the originals?

I honestly never even though to check when I was changing the strings!

But I just checked the bridge pickup and it is a 57 Classic Plus...white sticker with the name and a date (7/29/09).

    Cool,
glad you didnt get hosed. when I saw that price that would have been the first thing I looked at. Lots of guys have pulled those 57s and put in cheapos before they pawn them. The hock shop dudes arent likely to ever look under the pups

Never thought about that possibility either...although I'm not sure how up to that people here in Australia are.

And I reckon the shop guys just thought it was a run of the mill Standard with a plain top and had it out in the section where they have their Squiers and other Strat/Tele copies. The more expensive stuff (like the Studio, the Ibanez 7 string and the occasional Fender or fancy acoustic) sits in a locked display cabinet.

Very nice. They are great guitars. Love my Midnight Sapphire. The 57 Classics are my favorites. Enjoy.

    Beautiful!
I keep looking at the Tribute
but I always decide on a different guitar.

As per my OP, the Tribute made its first public appearance at the Christmas carols event that I was part of last night...along with my MIJ Squier Strat and my Taylor 414ce.

The split between the 3 guitars was fairly even when it came to what I played on different songs, but the Tribute was a heck of a lot of fun to play. I love the neck profile (I think it's one of the asymmetrical ones...definitely a lot less chunky than my Goldtop). Felt easier when it came to riffs and some more intricate stuff that I was doing.

FWIW, I walked past the pawn shop again today...the Studio is still there. Thankfully though I know that I walked out of the shop last week with the right instrument!
