Took delivery on a 1959 Melody Maker today. All I can is wow! It is original save for the bridge and a strap button on the bottom. Plays great, the neck is wonderful, and it has the mojo of a 58 year old guitar. Even if the guitar was a "student model." :) Very good condition! In the last photo, it is next to and above the 2009 reissue that I will now be selling.

The guitar came with a hard shell SKB case. I don't know if I will get rid of that in favor of a new Gibson case, but I'm suspect that the latter would work for the new MM although the latter is thinner than the Les Paul Standard.

I haven't decided on any substantive mods yet, but if anyone wants to suggest a couple that would be great!

I have one too. They are great playing guitars. It looks like you got yourself a nice one. Enjoy it for what it is and modify your 2009 MM with a set of P90’s.

^^This. Don't modify that old beauty. Keep the reissue and have at it.
    Nice acquisition. Killer little bugger.

Thanks! She sounds great and the mechanicals operate flawlessly. Not touching the pickup and pots.

Wow, great guitar! Gary Moore sometimes played a Melody Maker in Thin Lizzy. But it was fitted with a DiMarzio Super Distortion pickup. I think my next guitar will be a single cut Les Paul Junior or Melody Maker. But not a real old one i guess. Too much money that.

Beautiful little axe. Looks like you need to change the tailpiece for a non-lightning bolt one ?
