I didn't realize Cherry Burst was a finish option. I just scrolled past them thinking they were all standard Heritage Cherry (had I been in the market for an SG, I'd have paid more attention, I'm sure). That said, seeing your pics...I REALLY like that finish on yours. I'd say I prefer it to the run-of-the-mill Heritage Cherry we're so used to.

They are not wrong, only 2013, 2014 and 1015 Standard have same bevel than '61 RI.

    The pickguard is wrong, yes

    :p

Very cool. I had GAS for a 2017, too, and went out to buy one. Every single one I tried had a bad case of neck dive, at least eight, some would just tug on my shoulder, and a few really bad ones would literally dive. Grovers on an SG was a horrible decision. If I find a balanced one, I will buy it.

Tim, yeah this one definitely has neck dive as well. Not as bad some SGs but it’s still there. Seems I’ve just resigned myself to it when it comes to that model.

My 2015 SG Std has neck dive too but without the GForce it is perfect.

Have a look with the Creamtone pickguard, Hummm ...

I've never heard of that Cherry Burst finish before. Looks nice, congrats! Welcome back to the SG club. :)

I like how the burst is around the bevels.
    Looks great. HNGD

I agree 100% about the Grovers on an SG. They're nice tuners, but they're a guaranteed trip to Dive City. I'm in the process of replacing them on two of my SGs. My special has the stock tuners and there's no dive whatsoever.

For you guys who aren’t familiar with the cherryburst on the SG, here’s the back. As you can see, it’s almost black. But since the front looks sweet, I think I’ll keep it :)

What does yours weigh, Ron? I picked one up, 6.4 lbs, surprisingly no neck dive. Really nice guitar. Love the neck.

    I dunno. I didn’t ask and I don’t own a scale (that’s krytonite to a fatty ;) )

I’ve never really been hung up on weight unless it’s stupid heavy.

And like you, I really like the neck. It’s pretty skinny, especially compared to the CS LPs I tend to favor

My new 2017 HP is cherryburst as well, and I love it. White SGs will always be my fav, but I already have one. The cherryburst caught my eye so badly I had to grab one.

Put a set of "ivory" knobs on your tuners, you will feel the difference.

Neck dive is terrible and head heaviness is a drag. Though owners deny it, one or the other condition is common in SGs. My beautiful white '87 61 Ls Paul/SG reissue (w/ Grovers) had serious neck dive. But in most cases, the dive is caused not by loads of excess weight, but simply by bad (= stupid, thanks, Gibson) balance. I use some lead fishing weights (split shot) in small bags in the control cavity, and that, alone, is enough not only the stop dive, but to create good balance. I spoke to one parts company about producing a thick brass control cavity cover for those of us who want better balance on our SGs without changing anything significant, but they wouldn't go for it. But I'll find someone who will, and it will work fine.
