Happy New Year fellow Les Paul Owners, and Aloha from Hawaii!

After 30+ years of playing, I finally took the leap and purchased a Les Paul. It is a 2018 Exclusive Studio Shred with a Floyd Rose in Satin Black!

I always wanted a Les Paul, but the price has always eluded me, and I prefer guitars with a Floyd on it.
There was absolutely no way I could afford an Axxess, but always wanted a Les with a Floyd (sorry to all of the purist's out there...that's just me :))

Now, although I am pretty happy with the guitar, it did not start out that way. Basically, what was delivered to me was an unplayable guitar, not what I expected considering what i paid for it. I bought a PRS SE last year for almost half the price of this one, and it was plug and play right out of the box. Not this guy:

    -intonation was way off
    -neck needed some relief
-bridge was badly pitching towards the nut
    -spring tension needed major adjusting
    -action was way off

I normally setup my guitars myself, and always give a brand new guitar the "once over", so after a few hours of having to setup the guitar, it now plays like butter! Setup with Ernie Ball Hybrid slinky 9's to 10's, with a GK-3 pickup installed ( more apologies to the purists :))
I love the black hardware and satin finish. The RichLite fingerboard plays smooth and fast, and the neck feels so comfortable in my hand. The pickups sound awesome, and I have no intent of upgrading them anytime soon. The Split coil options add additional tonal voices to this already huge sounding guitar.

Guitar was completed 9/27/18. The paint still smells fresh!
Although there were some issues not expected with a guitar in this price range, some initial work got it to where it is a great playing guitar. I am so stoked to have finally added a Les Paul to my collection!

Welcome, but you are required to get a normal Les Paul also. LOL

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! I always thought my first Gibson would be either a Flying V or an Explorer ( I'm a big fan of the Schenker/KK/Jabs era).
Oh well, looks like they'll be 2nd and 3rd instead!
Oh no...more months of Spam and Vienna Sausage for dinner...my wife's gonna leave me, LOL!!!

Sound clips to come! I haven't had a chance to record the Les yet because I am in the middle of re-modeling my home studio, and a slight re-build of my board. I run a GP-10 in front of everything, mainly for alternate tunings. Haven't quite got the urge to splurge on a GR-55, yet...yet. :)

Here are some pics of my work in progress. Board's almost done, but not quite. Piped through 2 EVH 5150III 50 watt heads. The 6L6 head is dry, while the EL34 head is wet...wow.

Thanks, bungle! It has been steady at mid 80's during the day, with trade winds, while a cool 68 degrees at night, sometimes dipping down to the low 60's.
And that's cold for me! :)

    WOW !!!
This rig totally contradicts with your earlier statement “I always wanted a Les Paul, but the price has always eluded me” !!!! You have a real expensive rig man !

Welcome to MLP and congratulations for that beautiful Les Paul

    Thank you!

I have 2 dream Les Paul's, both way out of my price range...A Custom Axcess in Ice Tea, and a Randy Rhoad's aged Apline White Custom. Hard to justify the equivalent of a new/used car sitting in a guitar case.
This guitar is the MOST I have ever spent at once on a piece of gear, honestly. It's more than the 2 EVH heads combined!
All part of a 10-11 year case of GAS since the band started playing again, and many more years of trading/selling/collecting gear.

I can indulge a bit now that I can kind of afford this money pit of a hobby. Just no more new gear for a few months...Well, I'll try, anyway. The internet is evil, makes you do crazy stuff sometimes :)
