My first "Real" Epiphone was one of the original Korina Explorers from ??? (back whenever). Have always regretted selling it, although it was because I got a Bill Kelliher Golden Axe Explorer.

    Must resist!!!!! :D

no ***** way! awesome news! I'm in bad shape money wise right now but I will most likely sell my gibson V and go for that korina V... its a tough call between the explorer and the V but I think the V is just even more amazing, and suits me better. Can't wait.... I HAVE TO HAVE THAT!

I fell in love with V's with my gibson one but I always prefered natural finish and gold hardware... those are just gorgeous! What do you think they will cost? I hope 400-500€

Weird that the V is a straight grain instead of chevron/center seam.

In fact, it looks like they use a veneer front and back like the older models just with a better color. They don't say if the neck is maple or not.... I see the scarf joint....

    More like they're re-introducing them...

    Yeah, well said! :thumb:

I really don't mind the veneer on these, since (as you pointed out) the color balance between the body & veneers is the same. My Korina SG on the other hand..... almost looks like an Oreo (kinda :D ).

Seems like the front and rear veneer seams on the sides look a little more obvious...
But I took my V and tricked it out similarly:

I just find it odd that Epiphone releases these premium-ish models with the bottom-line humbuckers that have been being swapped out for ages. Probuckers or the like would be nice.

    Just my opinion.

their advertising says they are ''solid korina'' bodys. that would make a difference. if they aren't veneered ..anyone know? where the older ones solid ? i thought they were veneered over some other wood. if these new ones are solid korina I'm in! pups are meant to be changed ..my son had one of the older ones and we put some duncans in it..turned out sweet...interesting! wonder what they will ask for them..

Thanks for posting this find :thumb:

It's interesting trying to figure out just what Gibson/Epi did to make these .
Better pics would surely help .
I think ,,, I think ,,, from my understanding of the write up posted , It's all solid Korina .... But it doesn't state a 1 piece body /neck. Which is where the play on words comes in ...:hmm: This is not a "NEW " concept Gibson uses . Letting the buyer "figure out" and decide what is meant .

It may be made from all Korina, But from pieces, built up into a complete guitar ... Which the veneers would help hiding that fact .

I'm liking them because of the price compared to Gibson Korina V . Swapping a few parts is no big deal . If it's a good guitar , you'll make it better .

Nice thing with Epi's , is the neck . For me the smaller , thinner neck profile calls to me .... Plus price , since I really don't NEED anymore guitars , But I do NEED a Korina V

They just changed it on the website, they are now available for preorder only in the US so far! expected to be there on 11/23/16 for $549 each.

    Explorer:

you lucky americans! they are saying they will be available at select stores outside the US too.

What do you guys think? I think $549 is a bit steep..... am I wrong? don't know how good these pickups are and it does not come with a case

edit: just looked up the prices, should be okay. I used an Epi LPC as example, costs $600 in the US and 479€ in Germany, I have hopes for a price around 350-400€

"Solid" means a bunch of same wood glued together to form a body. Not to be confused with "2 pc or 3 pc or 1 pc" body. then a veneer on the front and back to make it appear to be a 1 or 2 pc body.

    "Slim-taper D-profile" + "Alnico Classic Humbucker" + $549 = No thank you.

Not usually an Epiphone guy but a Korina Explorer will be difficult for me to resist.
