I've been looking for this guitar for two years. Played more Les Pauls in the search than I can remember. This one just kind of came to life when I played it and seems to have everything go right in one build. Weight, sustain, tone. Proves that great Les Pauls were sill built after 1960. I played this against a 56' VOS, 59 VOS, a 60 VOS and a SG historic Maestro and this guitar DESTROYED them. I'm not saying that because I own it - I own it because it sounded THAT good.

Not all Norlin era's are throwaways. I came up just believing all the BS about them. Maybe the quantity of quality guitars dropped in this era, but there are obviously diamonds out there.

Hey dude - ebony. It's a second run, I'm assuming an electronics issue unless I eventually find something under the laquer. Maybe this is why it plays so well.

Sweet guitar, my '78 standard started out ebony and is also a "second" but I can't find a thing wrong with it.

Love that guitar, I really want a ebony sooooo bad! My bud has a early 70's ebony custom, and it really sounds great, very thick sounding, I did alot of work on it for him and took a few photos that I might post....:applause:Nice guitar!

I looked for an ebony 78 standard for a while and gave up. I might have to restart the search!

I don't think "second" refers to the run, but it means factory second. Meaning blem. Doesn't mean that its a bad guitar, could have been dinged or scratched at the factory.

At least this is what I thought.

EDIT: nvmd, seems like you were just using "run" in a different context.

Beautiful! '78 was a good year for LP's. Gotta love non-chambered 1-piece backs!

Congrats on the 78, they are awesome! Like someone else said I think the second stands for factory second but after 34= years I don't think it makes much difference.
