OK, finished it up last night. I've been sick the last few days but pushed through it to finish the build. Didnt have time for any decent photos but I snapped a couple quick ones this morning with my iphone before work. Of course iphones distort everything and make them look all stretched out. This annoys me so I'll take some proper pix in a day or two, but in spite of my annoyance at the lens distortion I did want to put up a couple quick pix

I'll wait till I have some pix more to my liking to post in the "guitars you built" thread :)

Beautiful Chis. A wonderful tribute. I bet it sings too. I'd love to hear it.

The very last night I saw Chris, about 2 weeks before he died, he came over to my house and we recorded a song in my studio with Chris singing lead vocals.

I used a crappy backing track that I downloaded from the Internet .

I finally worked up the courage to listen to it a few weeks ago. He sang really well. I decided I'm going to dump the shitty backing track and record all the instruments for real and make a proper song out of it.

I'll be using my "22 Special" for the rhythm guitar and this Phoenix for the lead guitar. I have guys lined up to do the drum tracks and bass tracks. I'll also sing the backing vocals myself.

I have the drummer and bass player lined up to record for me in my studio in early October and I should have a finished song by the end of the month

So you'll be able to hear this guitar as well as my previous build, along with my son singing for me the last time I ever saw him.

I'll conclude this build thread with a shot of the guitar floating in space :)

    Thanks for watching, folks!

BTW, cant remember if I gave this credit where its due. @sdshirtman was instrumental in helping me with the 12th fret inlay.
I came up with the basic design and he took my design (I think I posted it earlier in the thread) and played with it a bit. Cleaned it up a bit, made a couple tweaks, and it turned out really nice. Thanks John!

    One final comment...

    She plays really nice. [IMG]

It usually takes me a while to "connect" with a new guitar. Get the feel of how hard or soft to play to get the tones I want, where to put my hands and arms etc. Where to get the best harmonics, Etc

To bond with it. I'm sure you know what I mean.

This guitar took me no time at all to connect with. The action is low, but not too low. Frets are smooth and bends are nice and creamy feeling [IMG] It plays easy and sounds really good. (I run D'Addario .010 - .046 on all my axes) I made the right choices for pickups and body and neck wood. There is excellent synergy there. The sustain is phenomenal, particularly considering it has a floating tremolo. I credit the neck-through construction, laminate neck and carbon fiber (it's very rigid) as well as the tungsten block on the tremolo for that. The block adds a lot of weight (the bridge plus block weighs nearly 2.5 lbs by itself) and that much mass completely offsets the loss of sustain you would expect from a floating trem. You all may know I'm not one of those guys that gets all fussy if the guitar weighs more than 8 lbs [IMG] so the added weight is a non-issue for me. The downside is the block is $150.00 by itself which brings the overall cost of the bridge to around $350.00 which is a big pill to swallow, but when you play it you know instantly it was worth every penny [IMG]

Honestly I couldn't be happier with this guitar :)

Be on the lookout late October for a recording.

Wow, gorgeous guitar! Seriously beautiful. I'm in the middle of my first build (58 Explorer with MX220 style headstock), and I can only hope it turns out a tenth as nice as this. You should be really proud.

    Thank you :)

Good luck on your build. I did a build thread for my very first build, no reason why you shouldn't do the same. You can get lots of good advice and tips along the way...

I have been meaning to start a thread but just haven't gotten around to it. I barely have time to work on the guitar these days.

It's absolutely beautiful, love the colours, I'm not a floyd kind of person but that looks stunning

Hope you're ok, message me if you ever want to rant about life
