    Hello Friends,

I just acquired a 2001 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Ebony...and for $1300! I played the guitar last night and it sounded amazing...strong and bold with nice action. I previously owned the exact same guitar, but built in 1997. That guitar was stolen and I finally acquired a replacement.

Now, I certainly remember the 498/490 pick ups from the 1997 standard, and the 2001 doesn't quite sound like it has these pick ups in it, but I could be wrong. According to Gibson, the guitar was manufactured on September 22, 2001 in Nashville, TN.

Do any of you know if this guitar has the 498/490 pick ups or maybe some other pick ups? The previous owner said the guitar was completely stock.

Thank you in advance for any help.

2001 was a crossover year from 490/498 to Burstbucker Pros (Burstbucker V). I don't know whether September was late enough to have already crossed over.

I think 2002 was the first official year for Burstbuckers, plain truss rod cover, and choice of 50s vs 60s neck on the Standard.

    490R/498T is correct for a 2001 IIRC.

    Nice deal btw!

    2001 was 490R/498T.

    :D

    Measure them up.
    A 498 should be at around 14K.
    If it's more like N 7.8 and B 8.3, then they would be BB's.
    B much higher than N, 490R 498T.

My 2001 had the 490R/498T setup ("Standard" TRC, Grover tuners, 50's neck)
Mine is modded, but it came from the factory like that.
