    Does anyone know what model this guitar is and if it is real?

    TRC says Les Paul Custom. Has the Les Paul signature on the headstock rather than the triangle/diamond inlay. Pickups were replaced with seymour duncans and a kahler tremolo was also added. Color is similar to a trans black, but not quite. Some sort of weird Joe Perry version or something? Back of the headstock says "Epiphone Limited Edition". It has a code at the top: L6060629

    Came with a pickguard (not installed). Black tuning keys.

    Well I'm no expert, but the font of the serial alone makes me think FAKE.

    All of the other 'clues' you mentioned (like TRC) could just be customizations/upgrades.

    Welcome to MLP. I don't think it's fake myself. It looks like an older MIK, I'm guessing June of '96. I would wait for some other more knowledgeable people to chime in and give their opinions however.

    Hi

    and welcome here at MLP

    the serial tells it was made June 96 at an unknown Korean factory
    back in the time there have been many Korean factories who made guitars for Epi only for a short time

    it does NOT look fake to me, just heavily modded
    or it could be some prototype, hard to say...

    never seen a trem like this :hmm:
    does it say Gibson on it ?

    Looks like you got burned with a piece of junk? I'll give you $100 and take it off your hands!

    Not buying that one eh? Damn! :laugh2:

    Your serial translates to;

    L = Leader Musical Instrument Co. Bucheon, South Korea
    6 = 1996
    06 = June
    0629 = The production number

    I looked everywhere and can't find an older version like that with the black tuners except for the Standard OBL that was made for Sam Ash in 1997.

    Les Paul Standard - The Unofficial Epiphone Wiki

    So unless yours was an early model of that with the Kahler added? Also, the Custom TRC was obviously added since it is a Standard. And I can't imagine why, but he would have swapped the OBL pups for the Seymours (if, in fact, that's what the guitar is)?

    It seems the "L" factory code came up before and no one knew what it was then either?

    Thanks everyone :)

    Looks like half the people think it's real and the rest think it's a fake. Hmmm...

    It is a real Epiphone Les Paul.

    It is not a Epiphone Les Paul "Custom".

    Possible European, or Korean manufacturer, most likely Korean.

    Possible Long neck tenon if European made.

    The modification for the Floyd Rose type nut (if done properly) is more or less permanent.

    It does look similar to the '97 Standard OBL sam ash exclusive...perhaps it was a prototype or something for it?

    I also found a limited edition les paul standard plus that looks very close:

    Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar | Musician's Friend

    If you take off the pick guard, swap the TRC and the pickups and added a kahler tremolo it would be pretty much identical.

    So from what I understand, it is a real epi LP, but of unknown origin and unknown model (besides that it's a limited edition standard).

    I have not bought this guitar yet because all the dependencies made me doubt it's authenticity. Do you guys think it's a safe bet for the right price? I don't want to pay too much since there are so many questions that are unanswered...

    From what others have said, i would not hesitate to buy it in a second. That trem is probably stock, too. Says Gibson on it.

    If you buy it, please replace the green toggle switch cap ASAP!!!:laugh2:

    That locking nut mod looks a lil squirrely:shock:...like its crooked, or could be picture angle? I would def measure the scale on BOTH sides of the nut to make sure its 24 3/4..otherwise, intonation could be impossible.

    Also, with guitars that are modded like that, there is always a specific reason it is being sold:shock::shock:

    OP, are you in Michigan? I saw this exact same guitar on my local craigslist. Same bridge too. Different pics though.

    My theory is, if you are in Mich., its probably a mod job. If you are not in Mich., it may be a short and unknown run.

    Trust this guy. He is one of the few Epi Verification Experts on this site.
    He should put that title back under his avatar. We already know he's a V.I.P.!! :cool2:

    I found another similar guitar on another site here. But it's an Unsung manufactured guitar from 2001. It has the black tuners/hardware and see through black finish, but it's a quilt top.

    The Gibson branded Kahler is an accessory you can (or at least could at one time) buy from any Gibson dealer.

    There are only a few members with 'Epi Verification Expert' under their handle. I believe that title was granted by either Alex or the mods or the existing experts. I would not have the temerity to grant myself that title and I think Pete feels likewise.

    As to the topic at hand, I think the guitar is genuine, either modified or a special run.

    That's the right two to trust. They're the more knowledgeable people I was referring to in post #3.
