I have a 1970's MIJ LP that I want to modify using the '50s style wiring, but with the volume controls independent when the switch is in the center position. I've seen a couple of different versions of this, but so far they aren't working. Does anyone have a DEFINITIVE wiring diagram so I can get the results I want?

And, independent volumes do not sound well bellow 10. No electric guitar should sound like that and that is why you do not see independent volumes on production guitars. But, if you do not hear the problem, enjoy it.

    Have you sorted the issue.
If not then a pic of the wiring could help find anything obvious.

I'm pursuing a similar set up, 50's style with independent volumes. Wouldn't treble bleeds on each volume pot fix the tone issues? I assume that's what you're referring to in saying they don't sound well below 10? My old Gretsch was like that, it drove me crazy.

As in Norton's post, here's the video

Tremendous instant and irrepairable treble loss as soon as volume is rolled off just a bit, and narrow usable range of vol pot. Obvious inherent fault in design overbearing the dubious benefit. Just a learning tool, never to be used on a proper instrument as it degrades it. But, general population plays quiet, through anything but tube amp and does not hear good enough so anything goes, even a dead wrong wiring concept. Hence, we are discussing it although it makes no sense on a proper electric guitar played loud through a tube amp, as originally designed.

he explained around 11:25 why it worked on the Gretsch I had, the Gretsch also had a third master volume knob that made the independent volumes work correctly.

thanks for posting that, very helpful
