I picked up this 1983 JCM 800 50 watter and the matching speaker cabinet over the weekend.
2-1/2 hour drive but well worth the trouble. It's getting hard to find un-modded old amps anymore and this one's in real nice condition.

    Congrats,

I also owned an ‘83 JCM800. One of my top 5 Marshalls.

A verticle input 2204 is the way to go.

    Enjoy.

I was drooling over a couple similar amps on CL in the northeast. Trying to resist temptation.

I believe the vert and horiz input versions had the same circuit. It was the 2203 where the circuit changed. Could be wrong - only what I've read.

I think they started using different transformers at some point. If i recall, the older ones were Drake, not sure what the newer ones were.

I’m not even sure what’s in mine. Not sure I care. :)

I think the circuit values stayed the same.

Sweet score! The vertical inputs has the pots mounted to the face whereas the horizontal jacks have pots mounted on the circuit board. Vertical is the way to go!

I think the major difference is the horizontal inputs and pots are mounted to the circuit board. That is the way I understand it, anyway.

There may be some additional differences for the horizontals vs. the verticals.

Last of the great Marshalls. No doubt.
