Been looking for one for quite a while, just brought this near mint beauty home:

Complete with an Epiphone case, very little signs of use. All I needed to to is wipe the dust off and change the strings for my usual Elixir 10-52s.

2012 Qingdao model with the EMG 81/85 combo, surprisingly light and a nice, big round neck.
If only Epiphone made them all with necks like that, I'd definitely own a Tribute + too.
Nice, thin finish too, you can even see the mahogany grain on the back, never seen that on an Epiphone before :dude:

Just ordered a pickguard and a poker chip, other than that, she is gonna stay stock for now.
Might swap in a set of EMG Hetfields I have lying around, not the biggest fan of the 81/85 tbh.
But I'll give her a test run in the rehearsal room first next Friday before I decide.

But this is the nicest Epiphone I have played, apart from the Robb Flynn maybe.
It holds its own compared to my other LPs as well :thumb:

Now off to piss of the neighbours some more :fingersx: :headbanger:

Well, looks like nobody likes that design but me :dunno:
    Still a fantastic guitar :thumb:
I think the EMG 81 / 85 are coming out this weekend though.
The Hetfield signatures just have more character than the rather sterile 81 / 85 set, a more passive feel while still having monster output.

    Congrats!!!!

Those guitars rules. Post a pick when you install the pickguard and the poker chip.

I changed the pickups in mine to a 57/66 set, and put a good Gotoh bridge.

Thank, yes the hardcase was a nice boon, especially for the price I paid.

They are more passive-like in feeling to me, especially the neck pickup.
They are less "ultra-clean" (or sterile if you will) compared to the 81 / 85 and they have a lot more low-mid grunt, with a less upper-mids and treble.
The lack of lower mids is probably why I dislike the 81, it feels thin to me.

The 81 is more classic Metallica-sounding though, but thats not what I'm after, at least not all the time. The Het Set is more versatile IMHO.

Thanks, I would love to try the 57/66 set one day, until then I claim that the Het Set is the best EMG set I have played. The bridge intonates properly, so it will stay for once.

Pickguard and poker chip should arrive soon, I'll post pics for sure !

Got the pickguard and chip on, now it looks like a proper Les Paul :thumb:

The pickguard doesn't fit 100% - there seem to be some differences between the pickup rings / pickup distance between Gibson and Epi. But I managed to get it quite close to my other Les Pauls with a little file work.

Switched the 81 / 85 out for the Hetfields as well. Much better :dude:

    Congrats on the new addition.

Yeah on the pick guard there is a difference between Epi and Gibson. I purchased a (Gibson) three ply guard for my Bonamassa LP and had to file as well. Seems odd really doesn't it that the pickup rings are different (Bonamassa uses Gibson pickups as well!).

Very cool guitar. If it was mine, I would replace the pickup ring and pick guard screws with black screws.

Thanks, I had thought about that but I like having the gold screws, a little more contrast.
