I guess I've fallen prey to the Stratotone mystique. This is a Rex, probably made by Kay and distributed by Gretsch. Very similar, except with the pickup in the middle...neck-through construction...with the FATTEST neck I've ever felt. Pretty sure it's beefier than my '36 Duolian. It's the only neck I've ever felt that would earn the title Ridiculously Fat 1 7/32" at the 3rd fret and 1 7/16 at the 11th...the heel begins after that. Not sure if the pic does it justice. Pretty sure I've held thinner baseball bats. Pot code 304544. 44th week of '55. Is it possible it's '45? I have a Rex amp (made by Magnatone, I think) from '47... This pickup is POWERFUL. Really overdrives the amp. I thought my Supro Dual-Tone had the ultimate slide tone...I need to A/B them. This Rex KILLS for slide. The tone control is the one closest to the strings (!) and the switch is 2 position. One is a mud setting like the early Teles. I'm not even sure what this guitar can do yet. I only had a little time to check it out and got so sucked into the overdriven tone through a tweed Deluxe that I didn't do anything else! Can't wait to hear it through the tweed Bassman!
