    Gibson Corp?

    Guitar Center?

    Grinning Elk?

    Perhaps Trade Tang?

    Who bought MyLesPaul.com???

Actually, no one did! Truth is, though, there were several offers to buy MLP in the past, but I didn't even bother discussing it with them. I simply told them "Thanks but no thanks!"

I didn't want to do this prank on April 1st cuz then you guys would be like "bullshit!" right away. I wanted to do it a few days before so that most of you and the mods thought it was for real, and it seemed to work somewhat.

We can all take a deep breath and relax now, cuz MLP is not going away or be handed out to someone else for any amount of money!

Thank you all for your continued support! :thumb:

    Original Message:

    Fellow MLPers,

I'm delighted to announce that MyLesPaul.com has been acquired by a major guitar company. Actual company name will be announced in next week's press release, but for now I will refer to them as G-Co.

I've learned a lot from working on MLP, and I look forward to bringing my experience, creativity and insight to the fine folks at G-Co. Both MyLesPaul.com and G-Co share the same vision and passion for Les Paul guitars, and while I can't share any future website plans, I look forward to the opportunity to contribute and do great things with G-Co in the future.

By the way, nothing major will change on MLP any time soon, so don't worry. I will remain as Administrator, and B-Squared, DelawareGold, Led Zep Fan and Mobprop667 as moderators. I thought I'd let you guys know about this before the official press release is sent out early next week.

Thank you all for your continued support! :)

    Hmm

Well I'm not sure if this is good, bad, or simply doesn't matter.

We'll have to see I guess.

    Are you kidding me?
    Say it ain't so!
You started this out of passion but to sell to any major guitar company might have a negative impact on this place :(
No more MIJ, no more replicas, etc is a possibility
Bummer and I hope nothing changes

    Hmm....

I will say this, to be fair about it:

This place suffered a bit (well, more than a bit) when people were criticizing a "certain guitar company" and some of their recent blurbs which were repeated here ad nauseum. For remarking on it, and generally disliking it, and in some cases getting angry about it...they got the ban hammer for their troubles. It was enough to draw off a large contingent of the regular population which fed directly into the traffic of this site. If the debate is objective, and the criticism is constructive, it should be welcomed here. ESPECIALLY here. If it is not, then I really see no need for this forum to exist.

I'm not kidding about this, either. Even if it no longer continues to be an independent forum financially, I sincerely hope whomever is buying takes a HANDS OFF APPROACH to the day to day operations and does not offer extensive advice or discourse towards the moderation of threads.

I for one am NOT here to advertise Gibson. Or any other major manufacturer. If I like a model...i will say so. I am far more supportive of private luthiers like Roman Rist and Doug Kauer's Custom Shop. I hope I can continue to discuss THOSE guitars here.

MLP flourished because most conversations were open. It was an easy going place. Yes, some would flame out, and not everyone was a fanboy, but at least people got their 2 cents in.

If there is a repeat like there was a few months ago.....I don't see how this place will continue to grow and remain profitable. It will become as much of a ghost town as myspace...or a certain Gibson forum. *cough cough*

A general perception...and take it for what it is. I know in the great scheme of things no one here really makes much of a difference as far as the general population (You know, schmoes like me.) Be that as it may, if there are poor business practices, we remark on them, and it's fair cricitism and it's TRUE....I really, really hope you guys leave the floor open.

Censorship of that nature (and banning members) for speaking their minds serves no one when it's fair criticism against a product and a manufacturer.

(And no, I'm not talking about trolls either or people who attack other members. I am discussing not only the conversations on Les Pauls, but the alternatives as well, and all of the accessories, and allowing discourse as it stands now. :fingersx: )

I think we can safely assume that there will be a significant reduction in the number of replica build threads. What luthier wants to open himself up to that kind of liability with a company well known for filing lawsuits at the drop of a hat?
