I really got a heart attack, after waiting 6 months to get the guitar, i was shocked when i opened the case.
The flame top looks way different and the aging is crap. Bad thing is that the Koss sounds really outstanding good, so i decided to keep it. Anyhow it is a joke to get this ugly piece of wood for $ 10K.

Of course the one on the left is the one i got,
on the right you can see the original Koss. Here is a link to the prototype http://www.themusicz...paul-prototype/

Well, I've never been one much for the relic-look (unless it's my own scrapes and mishaps), but hell, so far as relics go, that one looks pretty damn good. The checking looks terrific.
By the way, it's almost impossible for flame-tops to look identical, but for what it's worth, I think yours looks just as good as the other.
I would get an amber switch-tip for it though, and maybe knobs more similar to the one on the right...
It's a shame they didn't take more care with relicing the stop-bar, the switch bezel and the screws in the pickup surrounds. A bit of DIY should set that to rights though...

How's the rest of it look? Headstock? Machine heads?

    yikes.

nico would have aged an r9 for way less than $5500.

Of course you can not reproduce it, but they could have used a top with less thinner flames and the aging, especially the part between the pick ups is a joke. Looks like a prison wall marking or "hey i learned my third riff".

I have never seen an aged Gibson in real, so when i see my real old ones the aged one looks really like a joke.

I´m gonna post more photos these days, but for now i have to calm down.

Yep, HM, that's only a long lead time and about half again what you paid for it, what a deal.

Only thing that looks off to me, is the shitty looking "graffiti" like dings and damage in the pick guard area.

Looks like something a kid would carve in the top of the old school desk. Chinese characters?

Stick a Pick guard on to cover that crap up.

Sorry it turned out that way.

    Send it back.

Give it back. Way too much money for a guitar and not be 100% happy with it. Again, because of the cost of this thing, it's also a guitar I personally wouldn't send for a makeover. Find a regular R9 with the right top and send that in for a makeover and aging to match the original. Who cares if it won't have a PK serial number. The real thing doesn't even have a PK serial number. :laugh2:

DJ and KLF do not work together.

Yeah. I know what you mean. I didn't mention it because you seem to be hurtin' enough as it is, but since you DID mention it, the one next to the "slammer-countdown sigil" kind of looks like a written Chinese character too.

Anyways, if I came into 10K worth of disappointment, I would get it replaced.

Still, looking forward to seeing more pics though...

I gotta agree here. If you're putting down that kind of money for an LP you better be damn happy. Send it back if you can. Hopefully it will all work out for you!

Yikes. The relic job on that is hideous. I'd send it back, personally. That's a lot of scratch for a half-assed guitar. I'm glad it sounds good, but for $10K it better!

Yes. Send it back. Please. That relicing is super half assed and barely resembles the original at all. Really, really appalling workmanship. Plus as cool as HM is, I would NEVER double the price of my guitar to get it refinished and aged. That, to me, is bonkers. I do love watching the threads where we chart the progress, however, but if it were my money, never in a million. Send it back and get something you're happy with. At 10 grand for a GUITAR!!! you damn well better be!
