I have a few different amps, Marshall SL5, Orange OR15, Marshall Jubilee 2525. I play in my basement so I can't really crank these, I've been using a Boss SD1 pedal for overdrive, It's not getting me a great metal sound though. Is there a pedal I can use to get that Metallica/Megadeth sound?

I have a friedman BE-OD and I highly recommend it as a pedal for metal... calling it an overdrive pedal is laughable lol

AmpTweaker Tight Metal. I have the Junior version (without all the loops) and it slays!

Watch this... a few great ones are demo'd, not just the Metal Zone (which is not great, IMO).

I don't play Metal often, but when I do, I play the ehx Metal Muff... pretty addictive.. IMHO it gets unfair reviews for being too bright, but a little bright cuts through, gets noticed.

I like the triple wreck very much, but it's expensive (that's why I've built a clone).

Anyway, I highly suggest putting a EQ pedal after one high gain distortion pedal (doesn't have to be expensive - something like the Tone City B model or the new Mooer preamp pedals) to really shape a tight metal sound. For Metallica/Megadeth sounds I think the Mooer 008 Cali Mk3 is the best option.

    Here, skip to about 1:40

Man! Everybody hates the Metal Zone! It's so tweakable and easily hits the Metallica sound. My son and I just picked one up off Craigslist last night for $25 in mint condition. The guy was liquidating because he had to raise his family...So, now there are 2 MT-2s in my house!

I was getting excellent results yesterday with my new BUGGFX Raincoat into my clean VOX Night Train. Amp eq had lows and highs cranked with the mids fully scooped. I think this setting is important to get a Metallica sound. Raincoat did the rest.

I have a Metal Zone that I modded with a Monte Allums mod kit, it absolutely kicks a$$. The mod made it even more adjustable, took the harshness out of the high end & boosted the mids & bass. It's like the ultimate maxed out Marshall.

I don't play metal often, but when I do the Musket by Blackout Effectors is my go-to pedal, hands-down the best for the type of metal I like to play (Melvins/Neurosis/Boris...etc)

I 2nd the Digitech Hardwire TL2 metal distortion. Great pedal for many types of metal, including nailing the Metallica/Megadeth dirt, but a really well made pedal as with the rest of the hardwire line, and priced well.
