I was just reading about him and the article said as I know that he use to use Les Paul's pretty exclusively until his collection became too valuable to take on the road. This might have already been covered but I can't remember seeing any pics of his Les Pauls. Anything is appreciated. Thanks.

Aqualung was one of the first three albums that really opened me up to rock n roll. I have decided that sometime in the next year I will get a '58 single-cut jr as my "Martin Barre" artist guitar. :)

I have written him some emails and he replied me approx. this:

dont remember the guitar on Stand Up album, amp was Hiwatt 200 (DR201) model. Benefit was played with late 60s LP Custom, perhaps renecked with the same Hiwatt and sometimes with treble booster. Aqualung is still Hiwatt with Les Paul Junior (except two tracks My God and second - Cross eyed Mary where other smaller amps were used). Thick As A Brick is 58 Standard which was used until Minstrel In The Gallery. Still the amps were Hiwatts. In 1976 he switched to Marshalls and the Burst was used until Heavy Horses album (1978). I dont know more.

Pleased to see the odd reference to Martin Barre - in my opinion an absolutely fantastic guitarist. Not just for his skillful and musical playing but for his incredible tone too. He, along with Kossoff, really got me into LPs back then...

I believe it's more the latter (Tho I think he still has a couple of LPs laying around), but not really sure if he still has the burst which was retired from live playing around 1978 .

He mostly plays PRS now, here is a list about his present gear

I was born in 1980 but when I first started playing guitar a family friend let me have the aqualung album about 1992 and I was very impressed! Ian Anderson is kinda like an English coked out cartoon court jester cliche' but he's an excellent performer and song writer.

This is a good interview where amongst other things he talks about his love for playing guitar, but at the same time, feels that they're only "tools" for his trade and how he doesn't have any favorites because "they're not that important."

He was the reason I bought my first Hamer...

Here is a link to him and his guitars.. And for some reason my Flamed Emerald Green Special is in the middle of this link.. But Martin used a Hamer Sunburst most of the time after he started playing Hamers..

Where is a good place to start with these guys? I mean, I've heard Aqualung, and a couple other tunes, but other than radio fodder, I know nothing of this band....little help?
