Just terrible,ain’t it!?!?
Then I'm in DAMN good company
Of course you are!! Man, I am reading this, looking at the Vintage head while playing the Green Meanie
We are all Amp Whores, nothing wrong with that!
Actually it’s not pentode/triode RJ, it’s some kind of power scaling thingy! I’m not up on amp tech stuff! Lol, but it sounds great!!
I’ve had plenty of low watt amps with pentode/triode, and none of the them sounded as good on the lower setting as the higher setting. Always sounded muffled, a bit muddy, and a loss in high end clarity.
But not this amp!! It sounds just as good on the 5 watt setting as the 20 watt setting! In fact, I think it sounds better on the 5 watt setting, especially if it’s turned up, which works out perfect for me cause I’m a at home player!
The reason I prefer the 5 setting is this is a bright amp when turned up, just like it’s big brother, Jcm800. In the 5 watt mode just the right amount of that piercing high end is trimed off, just a bit.
It makes for a very musically pleasing tone!
For low volume playing, both 20 and 5 sound great.
This is an amp I’ve been hoping for. A low watt Made in England Marshall that has a 5 watt mode that sounds great!!!
Congrats and HNAD!
You won’t regret it rj,....congrats buddy!!
Well you two guys, @efstop and @bulletproof have great amp collections,....I’ve seen them!!
What better an amp than a little Jcm 800 to nicely round out those beautiful collections hmmm??!!
I lean toward the Plexi, if I don't buy the used Mini Jubilee coming up for sale at Long & McQuade
I was originally going to get the Jubilee at some point, but the JCM800 is the ticket for me I'm thinking.
No worries. Glad you got your own thread... as I pretty much shut mine down
Enjoy your amp. Best sounding amp to come out, in some time.
Well, I just pulled the trigger! I might have preferred a Studio Vintage, but amazingly I found someone selling a used Studio Classic for a good deal and snatched it up. He said that he bought it on store credit, and would rather sell it for cash than return it for more credit. I'm sure if I don't like it or want the Vintage instead, I can flip it for the price I got it.
That post was unnecessary.
Let me know if you want to flip it! I'll pick it up in person!
Will do (I ordered it from Reverb, so won't have it for a little while). I'm pretty sure that I'll like it, but the older, slightly cleaner Plexi tones have always been my slight preference. Still, I've never had an amp with as much gain as a JCM800, so I'm excited to see how it works for me.
I have a 50 watt '68 JMP clone and a '83 JCM800 2204. They both kick ass, you can't go wrong either way.
The big difference to me is the 800 has a much thicker, big bottom and the plexi is just so articulate.
I imagine the 20 watt 800 doesn't thump like a 50 watter does though. I really want to get a chance to play both the classic and vintage models soon. I can see maybe getting the 800 this year myself if they prove to be reliable.
Can’t believe Marshall didn’t have someone smarter than this guy.
Send a tech AND a player, if you need to. He sounded a little dull.
That guy always has the worst tones. Most Marshall demos are awful.
Yep, this guy kept playing the same kind of riffs over and over in all the video's that he played on. Does he not know any other riffs.
Is he Jim’s kid or something?
Who hired him?
