so i was thinking of making myself a maple wood Les Paul, do you guys think its a good idea?
Yes. Do it. Gibson did it in the 50's:
Depends how heavy you like your guitars. It will end up heavier than a typical mahogany/maple cap combo unless you do weight relief cavities. Maybe baked maple would be closer to the weight of mahogany. I am not sure how much lighter on average normal vs. baked maple is though. Would like to know if there are any stats on that.
Gibson also did the "Raw Power" run of all Maple Les Pauls a few years ago.
