I posted this elsewhere, but I figure it deserves its own thread.

From what I understand, some people 'round here like amps. I just came across a small amp company out of the north-of-LA area called Mako Amplification. It looks like top-notch stuff. The line up appears to be evolving, but they have some amp heads as well as rack-mount preamps. Judging from the clips on the site and in YT videos, the designer knows how to build high-gain amps.

Some VH style clips on the website:

and if you like rack gear and don't get overwhelmed too easily, consider the twenty-knob MAK4! Or are you scared?!

Price list only has cabs and the rack mount preamp.
12 week lead time, 50% down.
Looks very well made and the price isn't bad at all.

But still really a startup from the looks of it.
    Time will tell.

Not a startup...Andrew's been in the game for years. His originals demand top buck in certain circles: true mil-spec wiring, and those amps used his transformers that he used to wind in-house. The guy absolutely knows his stuff.

Cool name! I've got a Mako center-console fishing boat.

I bought his Custom 100 around 1999. Both channels are good, but the drive channel (2) is the best. I still have it, considering selling.

Service was always an issue, sent it back a few times and once took over a year to get back. We had a great relationship until I complained about the year thing, there was more to the story I don't need to talk about now.

I would not fear purchasing his amps used as they are easy to service and are built like tanks.

Yowza looks like some pretty serious gear.

John are his Preamps along the lines of the Bogner Fish?

    Cheers, Rudi.

Rudi, I've heard from a couple techs that have worked on them that the Mak4 is essentially a tweaked Soldano X88R but with 4 ch's instead of 3. I've never played one, but I'd venture to guess that its channel's voicings (especially in the mids) would be way different from the Fish.

    Nice bump, Rudy!

I'm not sure what the various preamp channels were based on, but Big John knows his stuff.

I see the amps up for sale periodically. One was for sale locally about a month ago - was temped to purchase it just to see what it was all about.
