    I'm posting this in the hopes of starting a reference thread
    by made in Korea guitar owners => for made in Korea guitar owners.

    Any pics, info or guitar reviews are encouraged, as info about these manufacturers and their guitars
    is often limited to small fragments across the web and often shrouded in mystery.

    To this day I still don't know with certainty which manufacturer produced ALS Korean Tokai guitars from 1995 to about 2005
    although if I had to guess, my first two guesses would be Samick or Fine Corp.
    :hmm:

    Below is a brief preliminary manufacturers list I was able to assemble, a few of brands they have built,
    and dates of operation + plant locations in parentheses where known.
    I hope owners will build on and update the list, if there is interest :
    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    Cor-Tek (Cort) => Cort, Teisco, Cortez, Pearl, Silvertone, Kingston, Greco

    Dillion => PRS copies, LP Jr

    ESP => Grassroots + 1000 series LTDs

    Fine Corp (1994+ Inchon, Korea) => Epi

    KHL Co (1997+) => Wolf - Legend

    Korea Inc => Epi

    Lida => Ibanez , Yamaha acoustics

    Peerless => 90's Epi Dot

    Saein => Epi Sheraton

    Samick => Hondo II - Squier - 90's Epi Dot - Schecter - Dean - Washburn - Jackson - BC rich - Charvel - Silvertone

    Unsung (Inchon, Korea) => 2000's Epi Casino-Dot-Sheraton

    Serial # letter codes from each MIK manufacturer :

    Korea Inc = K
    Peerless = P or R
    Saein = I
    Samick = S (Indonesia branch = SI)
    Unsung =U

    My Unsung Epi SG is a great axe with one piece slim comfortable neck, no veneer and neck binding unlike the newer ones :thumb:!

    Thought I would repost this Mint Collection era Cort produced Greco EG model from the late 1980's.
    No serial number, but a nice solid maple top with figuring and grain + 2 piece mahogany back.

    EDIT: Don't know about the later Teisco's being Korean but I know the early Teisco's are MIJ (amps, guitars, etc).

    There are way too many brands and manufactures of guitars in S.Korea. As for the Tokkai ALS, they usually keep quiet, Tokkai is one of the most mysterious in terms of finding out whats what. Tho I did speak to one of a 1000 guitar stores in the Music Super Mall. Who seemed to know a bit more about Tokais, told me they are made by Samick. Most of the big players of the guitar manufactures in S.Korea are moving their factories to India China etc which in result we see the change in Made in Stamp. So narrow down to who moved or expand their plant to China.

    Good points Dan, and thanks for asking around.
    Tokai has a history of dealers placing unauthorized orders both in Korea and China it seems,
    so their secretive posture is understandable.
    Samick might have been the Korean manufacturer, since both Samick and Tokai were involved with Hondo,
    but Tokai routings differ from the Samick produced Magnum pictured above.

    Fine Corp and Unsung have or had operations in both countries I think.
    I don't know if Unsung has or had contracts outside of Epi production though.

    I've posted QC tag + cavity pics of Korean Tokai LS models below. Routes haven't changed much in the 9 or 10 years
    ALS + ALC models were produced in Korea from 1995 to about 2005.
    Hopefully someone with another brand of Les Paul from the same manufacturer will respond.
    I can't see this being harmful to Tokai, since they appear to have very little current involvement in Korea.
