using foam earplugs to block the holes will help prevent the need to re drill holes, i found it best to push them in from underneath

^ that is a great idea! i even have some of those around here.... I wish I would have though about that....

So..... I found another 490R... this time I paid 40. But i brought my meter with me and it metered out right and the pole pieces matched....

The pick ups metered out at 14.18 and 14.15 on the 498T's and 7.85 and 7.82 on the 490R's....

also checked all the pots... and they all measured out from 520 to 530 range...

found an issue with a couple of my pots.... i got 2 Gibson pots from one of the guys i bought hum buckers from locally, the sprocket part on the twist knob of the pot is shorter on the gibson than on the CTS pots... this might be an issue as the speed knobs don't seem as solid when put on the gibson pots.... I might end up going to buy 2 more CTS pots just to be sure that the knobs are all secure...

another issue is that i did not route the inside of the cavity, i didn't think it would be an issue as i was using long shaft pots.... BUT the pots don't sit right since the top is not parallel to the cavity base.... i think i will just angle the area where the pots sit with a forstner bit to make the knobs/ pots sit right.

then i still need 2 gold covers... both bridge spacing... this will hold me up.... as i will probably have to wait for shipping

    Hand Reamer.

I like using a tuning fork for testing pickups - more informative than a tap test and it'll detect phase problems if you hold it between the coils of a humbucker. A pair of clip leads connected to a phone plug will let you test with an amp before install.

holes deepened.... switches in good position...

i ended up using a forstner bit on the back side of the maple cap and reamed out a bit of the back side at an angle to match the top...

i was fearful to widen the potentiometer hole, as i was afraid it might not seat right... but i realized that having a bit of sideways play for the pot shaft was actually a good idea so i re drilled each hole and was able to make the angle. the lock washer on the bottom side of the potentiometer helped hold the angle as i tightened down the upper assembly.... now the pots and knobs are at the right angle with the top...

after doing the first guitar, i just ended up widening the holes for the mahogany topped one.... and i seemed to be able to hit the angle easily...

now i am waiting for the guitar store to open so i can get 2 more CTS pots so I know that all are the same.... and the knobs will fit better...
