I bought an SM 57 because I got a good deal (and wanted to get for a while), and I have a mixer to work with, but I'm wondering what pc interface to get.. usb/firewire doesn't matter, but I wanna keep it reasonably priced.

I'll mainly use this to mic my cab and occasionally directly record my keyboard/synth.

    Any thoughts?

I was thinking m-audio... something.. lol just not sure.

Presonus Firebox. Plenty of ins & outs. About $300.

I was actually looking at that, but I'm hoping to keep it $200 max.

I'm just a home recording star, but I think it is the best interface out there for the $$$. If I decide to upgrade to the Firestudio, I'll sell you mine cheap.

I'm looking at the Firestudio @ $600 new (26 ins&outs), but tempted to go all the way for a TC Electronic Konnekt 48 @ $900 (48 ins&outs). I'm looking under the sofa cushions and in the Jeep ashtray for the scratch, though.:)

I just bought a Gibson and am helping my mom with some bills, so I guess I should be looking under the sofa as well. :)

I only need one XLR input (I know most have 2,4,6, etc), a headphone jack, and a couple mono/stereo for my keyboard, so nothing fancy. I have lots of experience with Adobe Audition (my fav program) so I'll be good to go fairly soon.

I use one of these - an M-Audio Mobile Pre.

2 XLR inputs, 2 1/4" inputs, USB connection, works like a champ. It also has 48v phantom power in case you decide to upgrade your mic.

The only downside is that the headphone amp doesn't get very loud. Besides that, I'm really satisfied with it.

Cost me $150 new in the box.

Another option for just a couple of inputs:

<$100, lots of amp sims, sounds quite good, and comes with software or works with 3rd party (Garageband, etc.) software.

If you already have mixer, then you might be able to get away with one of these...
