Looks like the Like button is getting a work out on the Osama Biden Laden dead thread
The forum I help moderate does; we display it as "+x/-y", and there for a while we had dipshits working for plusses and not real contributions.
I'm still not sure that displaying those stats, as Colchar suggested, is a good idea, because it introduces an element of cock-measuring into what should be a more nuanced thing.
thats already been going on, more or less, with the old "thank" system
can you turn off the 'like' notifications?
give it a thumbs up!
I like like
I guess that as a relative newb I haven't really gotten on that exercise wheel. Or perhaps it's because I don't often start threads.
its not a big deal, but its come up as an issue before, some peoples credibility can be made or broken based on their number of thanks/thank'd's. I guess things have changed alot in my time here, the ratio of older members to newer members is more off balanced, with more newer members, the less the old ways matter
I like "Thank You" a lot, because it lets you show more respect to, for example, experienced pros in the Luthier's corner, or guys who take really nice photos. "Like" is good too, but is less meaningful.
but "thanks" or only for OPs, sometimes individual posts in the thread are "thank"/"like" worthy
Fvck me, I just hit 1000 'likes'.
to me, the "Thank You" system was part of the atmosphere/community here when I started reading it a couple of years ago. but, the site has changed and the internet is getting more twittery all the time.
Here, there's 1001.
you can still "thank", that part hasn't changed at all
No one thanks anymore. Insted when you start a thread you still get likes.
I thank, I see others doing as well.
This isn't true. I have started several threads lately for which I have received thanks, the most recent being yesterday (or maybe it was the day before). But, as mentioned, the problem with the thanks system is that it only applies to the original post.
ETA: I just checked and I have received thanks for two of the last five threads I have posted (and at least one other of the five was a thread asking about an amp so nobody would offer thanks for a thread like that). In one of the threads I received thanks from four people and in the other I received thanks from two. And, as mentioned above, those threads were posted over the last couple of days so people are definitely still offering thanks when they believe the thread/original post warrants it. If a thread/original post doesn't receive any thanks it is probably because nobody thought it worth thanking, rather than as some indication that nobody does it any more.
I have received likes for the op of threads since the like system has started but only a few thanks. I have seen likes given instead of thanks on other members' threads too. The duel system has some confused.
Pretty much. I never post a thread seeking to be "thanked", nor to be "liked", I post what I feel should be shared (whether be info, a audio/video clip, or a joke) Just because something is posted doesn't automatically mean it is "useful" or worthy to be "thanked"
I've seen my thanked posts more than double since the like system started; and if there's an OP which I like, I will both "like" it and "thank" it.
This. And there is the flip-side: just because a post isn't liked or thanked doesn't mean it isn't worthy. It just means that not many share that view.
