I apologize for resurrecting this old thread, but I just purchased a CIJ 02-04 ST57 and thought I would share. It looks so sweet and sounds even sweeter.

It's all good! An old one of mine:

MIJ '67 Reissue /parts caster..it's an International one!
    (MIM body, MIA/MIJ parts)

I hear there weren't many '67 RIs made..probably should have kept that one..

I had one of those! it was a CIJ..I added a white 3 ply guard for a Telecaster bass vibe.

Great utilitarian bass, mine is the only one I've ever seen.

    These are my two:

    1986 62RI -- Sonic Blue
Even though lacquer yellowing means it now looks more like Surf Green, I still think of this as my "Blue" Strat...!

The neck pocket still shows something more like the original colour. This one is a doozy of a player and always has been. It has just a fabulous neck and a fantastic slab rosewood 'board. In about 1991 it acquired Schecter low-gear staggered-height tuners which were a big improvement but I've always slightly regretted not keeping the originals but it's very much a players guitar. I've also toyed with changing the pups many times, on and off, for years but the originals just sing so I've always ended up shying away from it.

I'm still very tempted to put a nice tortoiseshell pickguard on this one, even if I don't change the electronics.

    1989 54RI -- Candy Apple Red
Not strictly an original Fender '54 colour but, y'know, Knopfler, Gilmour...

A great work-horse Strat. This one mostly has has heavy strings, higher action and (usually) open tuning for slide (hence my moniker). Sorely tempted to put BareKnuckle Apaches on this one as the stock Fender Jap pickups are OK but not brilliant (but, so far, I've lived with them for rather a long time).

I recently missed out on the chance to buy a classic two-colour sunburst of the same model (with a serial just a few numbers away from this one) for a crazy good price. It had been a well-worked gigging guitar but for all that it was in pretty good shape. Still kicking myself about not jumping on that one! Grrrrrr.

I'd also dearly love to find a good MIJ 52RI Tele in butterscotch with black guard from around the same production time, just to complete the set!

    Some day...

    :D

Here's mine - the neck is from a '96 MIJ 60s Strat, the body is a Mighty Mite, and the PUPs are Duncan Antiquities. This has been my number one for over a year now:

There must not have been many!

I wound up trading it to a guy for a 1970 Gibson EB0 with a well repaired crack..i only paid $525 for it at GC, and it had a nice Fender brand tweed hardshell.
