    They're the same guitar. ;)

That said, I like plain tops. Here are a few of mine:

Thanks! Between the Epi Std plain or plus top, they are literally the same guitar other than the veneer on top, get whichever guitar plays the best for you, or whichever one you like the looks of.

Yep, diceman has some nice axes.

Here's some of my Vintage Sunburst plus top, for reference.

Well I went for the plain top because it was $100 cheaper for the same guitar so I was willing to skimp on some aesthetics... I have no regrets, plain tops are beautiful especially when you can see the wood design....

Plus tops are definitely cool... some have way too much 'flame' for my liking... I mostly see that on epiphones, the gibsons are quite sweet.

    Yeah.. love em both though.

Oh and mine came with a touch of 'plus' :p (not quite but its got some sort of wavy thing going on)

I think the flamed top looks more vintage than the plain. But plain is sweet as well. diceman! your '69 Deluxe is rocks.. what's that finish on it?

    Welcome to the forum!

Its a Nitro refinish, done in the 70's (roughly) - its not original, and the guitar used to be a gold top. They did a nice job with it, though. And, thanks!

The best part about it is that it went with NO BIDS even though it was under $3k! Then it dropped to "buy it now" at $2.8. The shit you stumble upon if you dare to wander the streets of ebay... ;)

And, thanks guys - I'm lucky to have acquired her, she plays and sounds absolutely amazing. Almost too much mojo to handle...

Monkey - welcome to the forum. I'm partial to + tops myself, although a vintage SB plaintop is pretty nice...

Diceman, you're turning into a reg'lar collector. I'm interested in what you'll be playing the most after a couple of months with the R8. I'm with Dennis, your Deluxe just "gets it" for me....

Beautiful guitar, man. Any particular reason you reversed the neck pickup?
