Leon is a great demo-er and answers this question perfectly and straightforwardly.
What about Axe FX II?
I think it would be fair to say you can substitute the Axe FX for the AX8. The features may differ, but the sounds are the same.
"Suck less" was the best advice given.
Indeed. My favorite part.
agreed, suck less is the best part! Also, the "pick which one you think is best and roll with it" idea is pretty wise. Really, all 3 units put the tone back into your fingers... work your magic hands sexy
Yep, whichever one makes you play more is the right one for you.
you should checkout his band too, they fuckin rock!
I know I made the right choice, but that very short review reinforces my belief in spades. AND! I actually played guitar tonight after a very long and drawn out relocation. Had 2 nice tube amps at hand, but the first thing I turned on was my Axe FX II (with a Strat, I am semi-ashamed to admit). Modelling is definitely winning the battle with me.
but how do I 'suck less', oh wise sage?
If I could remotely justify it, I'd add a Helix to my Kemper and Axe.
you CAN justify it......the UI is the best
you can, and you should... it could add the final chapter in your "which one to choose" opus
LMAO we are musicians, we can always find a way to justify it.
The quest for the perfect tube amp may be turning into the quest for the perfect modeler.
It could very well be. I found my "perfect" tube amp tone when I got my Rivera in 1990. Nothing EVER compared after. It was a mountain moving experience when the Helix was able to provide me with that tone - not an "eh, close enough" but an actual "HOLY SH*T!!! THIS THING SOUNDS, FEELS, AND RESPONDS THE SAME WAY!!!!"
At this point the ONLY way a modeler could be "better" for me would be if somebody actually modeled an original Rivera M/S that had the carpet covering with the steel mesh grille made in Sun Valley by Paul Rivera in his small workshop (essentially MY Rivera, lol). I have SERIOUSLY thought about getting a Kemper JUST for this reason. The only thing holding me back is I NEED to upgrade my studio within the next year. ALL my gear funds are going to a new MEGA computer and newer software and plug-ins. It stinks, but my current system is starting to present issues and AVID/Digidesign no longer support my system
is it wrong that I want the patch you made that is like your Rivera?
HAHAHAA, no - not at all. Give me your email and I can send it to you. We have Irma coming, but schools are closed the next couple of days. I can load it up and send it over by the end of the weekend.
The last thing he said was by far the most important tip........spend more time playing.
Thanks for the Vid.
