I totally agree Tom, which is precisely why I have quite a few keepers. :thumb:

A great high end Luthier built custom Guitar or Replica with some great Vintage PU's & Harness and you have an awesome Guitar...............but most know what I think about that already. Certainly not a Vintage Guitar but an awesome Guitar nonetheless.

What I do like though, is getting great bang for buck which keeps $$$$ free for other family interests, especially since I think Guitar investments are not a great idea.

    Cheers, Rudi

    This!

Rudi, that's what I was saying in my post on Rig-Talk. The Black Burst in the thread has a Gibson headstock. That's why I posted the link with my quote above. The owner wanted it that way and now he is dissing people who demand to see a pic of the headstock.

I am certain good replicas are up there with good vintage guitars, no doubt about it. And I would rather pay $8K for a good replica than a Gibson CC.

Nevertheless: Faking the Gibson headstock is a huge nono for me. Maybe I am in the minority here

I haven't followed along so I have no idea what you think about Gibson logos on replicas. I was just taken by the look of that headstock, logo and all. Looks truly great yet very different from the original look. That's how it should be done, IMO.
As TW used to say "man up and put your own name there":thumb:

Yeti, I have no problem with a Replica being an exact Replica. I also have no problem with alternatives / custom Guitars having different headstocks & logos.

FWIW, I can see both sides of the argument. My Replicas have serial numbers and / or markings that will never allow them to be passed off as Vintage instruments, albeit they will go to my Son. Knowing him as I do I very much doubt he'd ever sell them (anyone trying to pass off a Replica as a real Burst should be outed).

I can see where TW is coming from but I have two fundamental issues. Firstly a small group of people have made a fair amount of money buying & selling Bursts & are obviously out to protect their little patch because they have skin in the game.................the club IMHO has lost some of its foundations as we all know.

Secondly a disparaging remark/s made about a particular highly skilled Luthier (who is also a personal friend of mine) completely pissed me off & basically shows that certain people have no class whatsoever.

$$$$$$$ make people do funny things.

    My 2c FWIW.

    Cheers, Rudi

I'm coming to this thread late, obviously, since it has long since moved on from the original topic.

Rich, I think Doug may be a little more interested in the "fake" Bursts that are in Beauty of the Burst. :naughty:

Fess up, I am sure you have way more information to share than those posted on Eric's site. :)

Many 'bursts posted for sale on the Maverick site over the years have been fakes.....but heck, you can't be expected to control what your "webmaster" posts.

In other news, the dog ate my homework and the cheque is in the mail.

I think it would be easier to find Malaysia Flight 370 while snorkeling than to get somebody to publicly post what they believe to be a fugazi in BOTB. No?

Maybe. But the idea that one person's $$$,000 investment might be someone else's entertainment is rather a stretch.
