Does anyone have any idea how many left handed Melody Makers were made in 1959?
I've always heard that Gibson waited to fill lefty orders until they had four to be built. That being said, there is only one lefty burst from 1959 that seems to be around. So my guess would be four lefty Melody Makers.
I also wanted to say welcome to the Forum LeftyR4 ! Here's a link to a thread I started several years ago that you might find interesting.
Thanks Lefty Elmo!
Great tread too.
I'm trying to determine if I have the only lefty 1959 Melody Maker, or if there's more out there.
Either way, I think it's pretty rare.
Can you post some pictures of the Melody Maker please?
That would be as rare as it gets...
Please post some pictures, we all really want to see that beauty...
Here's one for sale, unless it's already yours. Either way, a very cool guitar!
1959 Gibson Melody Maker Sunburst > Guitars : Electric Solid Body - Nationwide Guitars
This '63 is cool too!
1963 Gibson Melody Maker Double Lefty > Guitars : Electric Solid Body - Folkway Music
The '59 in Lefty Elmo's post is mine. I just bought her from Nationwide. I'll post some pictures once she arrives.
Here's the left handed '59 Melody Maker.
I love her.
^Cool, cool, cool.
If anyone's ever seen another left handed '59, I sure would like to hear about it.
Damn that's cool! Congrats on landing her, and enjoy in good health.
That was up for sale from them for a long time. They wouldn't budge on the $4,500 asking price at all, even though it has non-original parts. Recently on gbase, the price changed to 'Call'...
I also have a 59 lefty Melody Maker! Purchased in the early 90s. Original bridge but someone along the way switched out the tuners. I may be interested in selling if the price is right.
