So a few weeks ago I signed up for a knife making class. Class is Monday nights from 6pm to 9pm.

Started on the first knife made from 1095 steel.

Handle material is called micarta. Its a compressed compound material.

At this point I sure am wondering what this thing is gonna look like...

But it soon starts to take shape...

After lots of sanding and shaping, it finally comes together.

I learned a lot doing this first one, but now, I've started on my second one... Hidden Tang

Probably use deer antler and cherry wood for the handle on this.

That's really nice looking, great job.

Are there classes like this everywhere you think? I'm going to
Search around and see if there's something local

Excellent work, really well done thanks for sharing. Must be far more satisfying than buying.

Not sure. This is at Indian Capital Technology Center in Sallisaw OK. Being taught by a 78 year old man that's been doing it all his life. Has lots and lots of cool stories too.

Thanks. Yes, and has even showed us how to make a sheath from a hunk of leather.

But to do all this from home, you gotta invest in some equipment. I have started to acquire a few things now. Going to try to build myself a knife grinder (thats what they call the belt sander set up).

Looks great! A friend of mine is Gil Hibben's son-in-law and is bringing me to one of Girl's classes next year. Gil has made knives and weapons for quite a few movies like Rambo, Star Trek, etc., so I'm kind of psyched to be going.

Gil is 81, but you'd never guess it to watch him work.
